Overclocking 1090T that easy??? - Page 2

Hey Southwestboy,

I have a 1090T and all I had to do was change my multiplier to 20 and "Bam" 4Ghz just like that. And with stock voltage! Mine is also for FSX and FS2004. This is my first OC so it got me there too easy. Now I am trying to get to 4.2GHz but I am not sure what to try... multi to 21? Up the FSB? Try moving up the voltage? (just CPU voltage or do I have to up CPU/NB voltage).

This is where I am very green. I am reading up on this but any input would be helpful. I have an Asus Crosshair Formula IV MB and 1600 G.Skill 2x4GB RAM at 7-8-7-24. Cool temps with my Noctua NH-D14.

thx.

Remember to stress test your machine with prime 95 for at least 8 hours. (I have had machines crash on the seventh hour.

Isn't the CPU/NB freq only determined by the Internal Memory Controller built into the CPU, and the voltage applied to that part of the CPU in the BIOS?

He should increase his fsb to 210. with 20 multi it should land him at 4.2ghz. Its not advisable to use that high multi for such a huge jump though, for stability purposes......
so, if 20x210 doesnt give him a stable 4.2ghz then it would be time to back lower the multi...... using 18.5 with 228fsb can help you reach 4.2ghz. As for the 'stock' voltage comment....... its actually the mobo vcore 'auto' setting pushing the vcore up to support the 4ghz oc. Its better to manually control the vcore though. For 4.2ghz he would need somewhere around 1.5v . The best way to determine that is to use cpuz to find out what vcore he is currently on at 4ghz, then use and slightly tweak that value in the bios until he gains stability.

What is the line for multiplier where it turns risky? I know Clutch Cargo had it to 20? Would that stress the system too much?
