True. But the Fiio products I suggested earlier seem to be the most cost effective entry route to go, IMO, for an external solution. I'm going to order them when the Senn's 595 drop in price on amazon.

Well, through some bizarre twist, I've ended up ordering the STX, the Titanium HD and some DT770 Pros.

After more research the STX seems to unreliable - it suffers from popping, crackling and poor drivers - the ASUS forums are full of unhappy people - mind you, happy people don't tend to be as vocal as unhappy people.

I figured that the X-Fi probably has the edge on the driver front, it can drive the cans I've ordered and does pretty much everything the STX does - minus coaxial SPDIF and headphone amp, although it can drive cans of impedance up to 330 Ohms. There's also the unknown header on the card that may (hopefully) allow for a daughterboard that will allow analogue 5.1.

It arrived this morning, and it's a stunning looking card. I've not got round to unboxing it yet though - I ordered it last night at just before 23:00 and it arrived on my doorstep at 07:30!

The STX is on it's way too - I've just phoned up to cancel my order, but it's already shipped. Thankfully due to distance selling regulations, I can return products ordered over the web within 7 days as long as they're unopened.

Wow, it has to be unopened? That's kinda lame, and it would have been nice if you could've done a self comparison. I love my Titanium HD so far, and the one thing I noticed that it did so well over previous Creative X-Fi and non-X-Fi cards is the upper frequencies. Treble and instrument separation are much better. I would still recommend looking for an amp, though.
