Thread Starter
i have a budget of about 1000/1500 us $
games, crysis, fallout NV, call of duty black ops, nfs shift.
also use auto cad and solidworks.
im going to be buying piece by piece as i do not go home till june.

im planing on water cooling it but that does not effect the budget.
and neither does the case. i have a haf 922 so take that into consideration for space.

Go with the 2600k for sure. Then you could go CF 6850s, or a 6970, 750W PSU most likely, 4GB RAM, SSD and 1-2TB storage drive.

ok lets go:
i5 2500k
ati hd 6850/6870
ASUS P8P67 (PRO)
DDR3 - mushkin redlines 4gb or something along the lines of that
1tb harddrive
SSD - around 50gb or so will do
PSU - go with a with a corsair tx650 or hx650

thats just a basic outline, ive listed more than one option for some parts.

your welcome.

No the 2600K is not "for sure".

ACad and Solidworks do not use more than 2 threads 95% of the time. There is only a small handful of tasks I can think of where SWorks would benefit from 4+ threads-things like fluid simulations.

Save the money from the CPU and get more RAM and a better GPU.

I would recommend reading this:

http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2011/01/intel-recalls-sandy-bridge-chipsets-due-to-sata-screw-up.ars?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss

Postponing your purchase a bit. And checking the Hardware News board-there's a bug in Sandy motherboard chipsets.

as of now i can afford a graphics card upgrade. should i get another 5770 and do xfire or get a better ati/amd or nvidia card. if i should ditch the 5770? i can afford in the 300ish area for a single card maybe a little bit more
