The only reason that I say HD6970 is because some games are not dual card compatible.

I vote for a 2nd 5850. I haven't had any problems with my Xfire setup.

^^This!
It always happens with these types of threads, surely if you buy a 6970 now by the time you wish to crossfire people will be suggesting you buy the 79xx series,so in conclusion I suggest the 5850 crossfire and wait until the 8xxx series comes around to upgrade, unless you absolutely have to have the latest and greatest.

just wondering,as an owner of a 5850 crossfire setup im impressed with what they have given me.however im thinking of getting a 580 which will be sli when i get enough for a second card.do you think im wasting money upgrading so soon?

The only way I would say it would be worth it to switch to a newer card rather than adding a secong 5850 for CF is if you plan on going with a multi monitor setup. The higher resolution multi monitor setups need more vram to prevent choking on higher settings at the higher resolutions. If you plan staying with a single monitor then 5850CF will handily serve your needs for the forseeable future. If eyefinity is something you want then definitely get at least a 2Gb vram card. You can't have enough vram with eyefinity, probably gonna be seeing 4Gb and up cards coming out.
