2.1 speakers for home audio

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
I'm looking to set up a 2.1 channel system to use with my Xbox 360 and my Apple TV, both are HDMI/optical, while my TV has two HDMI ports as well.. The cheap receiver I was using decided to die on me, and I was using two 40+ year old floor standing speakers, and to be honest I'm ready for an upgrade. What I was using before wasn't too loud, and that was fine with me. So the next set I get doesn't need to be too loud or bassy.

I'm not looking for anything other than 2.1, as the room I'm in can't really have a 5.1 system set up nicely. Also, I'm not looking to spend a ton of money because I do plan on moving into a better location and setting up a nice 5.1 channel system. This is more of a temporary thing, but I still want it to sound good. I'm not partial to any brand or any kind, just as long as it will sound good, as objective as that sounds, I'm happy. So whether it's a home theater in a box or pieced together that's fine.

I'd rather stay around $200 but if it's worth it I can go up to $300.

For a low budget...you can't go wrong with Polk.

Polk Monitor 30 + Dayton SUB-120 + cheap receiver(cheapest new receiver is around $100, Sherwood).

Do you have a receiver already?

Speaker recommendations are dependent on whether that $300 includes a receiver or not.

I know your looking for a 5.1 but, I would recommend the Corsair 2.1 as part of your choices. My living room is huge(house parties) and this speaker bass/ satellites can reach down to the end my hall way corridor.

Hands Down.

Corsair 2.1 SP2500

I'd like it to include a receiver.

Not anymore.

//editt

I would keep the speakers I have now to secure a nice receiver and sub and grab speakers a few paychecks down the road.
