Best server OS for laptop - Page 3

Well with source games clock speed is the key. A dual core at 3.06 ghz is > quad at 2.4 ghz. And it just depends on how you used ubuntu. If that's your issue, use ubuntu server. No spoon feeding there as there is no GUI. All console which is all that's needed to host a source game. Just download the file, and start the game update.

Ubuntu server is CLI only, unless you install x.org and Gnome/KDE yourself.
You'll likely need to visit srcds.com to get it going anyway, so not sure how that spoon feeding argument plays out. Any Linux distro can be changed to any level of your ability and desire. Just because it's prepackaged with extra features does not mean it's unmodifiable.

I was not arguing with you in the first place. I was merely implying that for the most part Ubuntu appears to be less suitable for "lower" level usage then other distributions, which ofcourse does not mean that theoretically it does not have the capacity of being modified.

I am already familiar with the srcds, therefore I am no longer at the spoon feeding stage in that area either

I have absolutely nothing against Ubuntu as a distribution or the philosophies that it supports as a distribution, I am simply interested in locating a different distro for one reason or another.
