I need a new pair of headphones....Less than $100.

Alright I use my headphones for music ranging from Alt Rock to Prog Rock to Jazz and Electronic music. But I also use them for Skype and Gaming for hours at a time.

I am leaning toward either the sennheiser hd555(my friend loves his) or the grado sr80i's but I am concerned about the open back. One of the major reasons I use headphones is because I am in college and live with a few people. And I don't want bother them.....otherwise I would use my speakers. But I don't want to loose sound quality or comfort.

If you want closed back headphones then I'd say the Shure SRH440 or Audio Technica ATH-M50

This. Even the 45's are decent. i have heard people complain about their comfort, but I find them uber comfortable and I game for hours at a time.

How bad is open back headphones?
If I am skyping for example, is someone else in the room going to hear everything said?

Also, How does the comfort of the AT M50 compare to the HD555?

I have sennheiser HD600 and if someone is pretty close to me they could make out what i'm listening to if the music is decently loud but skyping you should still have privacy I'd say.

You don't want open style headphones if you're not going to listen to them in a quiet place. This will disturb people and you will not be able to hear your music as well because of outside sounds interfering with what's being outputted from your headset. So avoid the Grado's if you're not going to be alone or going to use it in a quiet place because they're going to have too much leakage and interference in the environment you're in for you to enjoy them.

I have the SRH-840's I listen to them more than anything else. It's my only closed circumaural headset that I own. Most others sets I have are IEM's or open style. If the SRH-440's are anything like the 840's then they're worth getting. I love my 840's they're one of my favorite sets.

Is there a close-back alternative that gives a similar sound?

im also looking for a sub 100$ headphones and I live in canada. NCIX seems to only sell "gaming headsets" I know how bad the people here sigh at the sound of a "gaming headset" and I feel the same way. I just want a good pair of headphones, i dont care about mics. Ill be using it for gaming and general use
