Seriously, others aren't as fortunate as you and don't have the money to burn. Even if the RAM is OCing well, or if it doesn't run at stock speeds, people always have a use for them. I still have PC133 RAM laying around just in case.

This is absurd, everyone get off of his case. Understand scale! Before you judge others and their wasteful ways, let's think of our own, and how very small things in the scale of our wealth appear to the bottom billion in the developing world.

To the original poster, I am glad your new RAM is working well, I hope you had fun pulling the old stuff apart, I know that I always like messing around with my old hardware

All the best,
Cory.

Thread Starter
Thanks cdolphin. As I was the one who originally paid for that ram I think that I should be able to do whatever I want with it regardless of whether others agree or not. And as I previously stated this was really just a "hey why not try and take some heatsinks off" moment. And the results of that experiment are that the heatsinks will not come off cleanly from that ram. The chips may have sucked but they used some very good glue. So I sacrificed those ram sticks in the name of knowledge.

And as far as keeping old computer stuff, well I still own a 486. And it still works. Even hooked it up to the internet the other day. But that doesn't work all that well. I also bought most of my stereo equipment back in 1980 and again in 1983. So I don't waste a lot of stuff. Even those aluminum heatsinks will get recycled. And then the next time you are drinking a can of soda you can think of those heatsinks.

I know how you feel coonmanx. Once upon a time I had a computer that performed subpar. It was a Vaio so it had all that proprietary crap! I actually had to zip tie the power supply to the outside of the case to keep it from overheating! i mean the thing was junk towards the end of its life. Where am i going with this? Oh yeah, well after I had the money to put something really nice together I was able to put the Vaio on the train tracks just before the train went by. And it was satisfying indeed.
