I want to upgrade my Phenom II X2 550

I want to upgrade my Phenom II X 2 550. I want to get an Intel setup this time. I need to buy a CPU, MB, and Ram. I was going to get an i7-950, MSI Big Bang-XPower, and 3 X 2GB ram. Now I am torn between that and i5-2500K, ASUS P8P67 WS Revolution, and 2 X 4GB of ram.

Either way its is about $600. I am curious about the upcoming Bulldozer AMD procs if they are close to Intel's performance. Ivy bridge seams like a long time to wait. I've already been waiting dammit.

Maybe I should just stick to 2-way SLI. Either way I want to spend about $600. If anyone can give any recommendations about any of this that would be sweet.

If you want to go Intel, then probably the i5 2500K is the best choice as the P67 platform has more up-to-date technology. However there are many x58 boards that support 2xSATA3 (as P67), full speed USB 3 and all the rest.

/offtopic: Have you tried unlocking or overclocking the 550BE? If you could push it a bit harder you might gain enough speed to allow to see if a)Bulldozer is any good; b) Ivy Bridge is compatible with P67 boards.

I5 2500k FTW - we don't know when BD will be released and how well it will perform, if you need an upgrade, might as well do it now.

I can't see SB losing much of its resell value in a few months.

To reply to the OT above - Quad Core IB processors will definitely be compatible with 1155, but 6-8 core processors won't be.

This Ram: Ripjaws X
The 2500k : i5

I have it overclocked at 3.7 GHz from 3.1 GHz. As far as I'm aware I cannot unlock to a quad core because my MB has the NB770 and SB700 chipsets which do not support advanced overclocking features. I wish I would have known more when I bought this computer but alas I did not.
