hahah i kinda feel bad.. but honestly the laptop isn't THAT good.

I'm excited... turns out microsis decided to wait until either a) he gets payment cleared or b) he receives the GTX 470.

So it looks like I'll have to wait hahah and I'm awful for waiting. lol

I know eh...

Kill me now.

I just hope I can just be happy with what I have.

In the past 3 months: new BlackBerry Bold 9700; upgraded to iPhone 4; GTX 470 (two of them); and now this Asus G50Vt-X5.

And the funny thing is, I always say, "ok enough is enough, no more toys."

But watch me, next month i'll probably get a EK Full Cover block for my GTX 470.

I just need to stop. nao.

That can run BO, but probably not maxed. BO is one CPU intensive game, 40% on my 6 core= probably hovering around 100% on that laptop.

If I can manage all low settings with no AA and still be playable, I'll be very happy.

I bought mainly for source, 1.6 and black ops.

Yeah you should be fine at medium with no AA and full res, maybe high or 2XAA.

Source will run fine it runs on anything. It runs on my friends Celeron at 2.2GHZ with Intel GMA graphics.

Not true. I could barely run 1.6 on my laptop I currently have -- i3 M350/4GB DDR3/Intel HD Graphics.

I couldn't even imagine trying source.

That's rather odd. But then again Intel isn't known for good drivers let alone good ones from OEM distributors. The Intel HD should handle 1.6 no problem but this depends solely on the drivers. Hence why despite knowing they can game I often tell people they can't because most don't want to bother doing the messy hacks to get Intel's things to work. Never could understand why a company would invest money in hardware that it isn't going to let work at it's fullest (glares at Apple and Droid manufacturers).

Another tip: Make sure to use Nvidia's System Tools program for OCing that 9800mGS because I don't think Afterburner or Precision will work (it didn't for me). Should easily make the same clocks as the 9800mGTS.

See the thing was, the Intel HD Graphics were brutal. I had to run at 16 bit just to hover around 100 fps and it looked awful in 1.6

Not to mention, the FPS never stabilized. It would go from say 100 all the way down to 40, then back up to 60-80, then back to 100 and so on and so forth.

I thought at first it was my laptop throttling while in game (and I still believe it was the case) -- that was affecting FPS.

I tried using a program called ThrottleStop but it did nothing to help me.

I'm hoping I can get into the Asus G50's bios and disable C1E and Speedstep if I can.

If not, i'll have another go with Throttle Stop.

So, I should be able to hit 9800m GTS clocks eh? Sounds amazing. I'll google Nvidia System Tools and i'll be sure to overclock that 9800m GS

Thanks dude.

Yeah that sounds like the typical experience with Intel's latest "GPU". Though running in 16bit mode does sound rather odd.

ThrottleStop worked well for the G50's CPU I don't think it does anything for a GPU.
You shouldn't be able to/bother disabling powersaving modes on a laptop because then you will definitely suffer in the battery life. Just use ThrottleStop when you need the juice and also use it to lock the the powersavings when your on battery. It helped a little bit there too.

The total core clock difference was about 70MHz I think at most. I made it well past that with mine(iirc). The GTS was just nvidia doing a money grab and going "look we let this new version have 1GB vram so you should pay much more for it." I guess every company has to fleece somewhere.
