How much ping time is too much?

So basically, I'm moving out and won't have internet where I'm going for a while, but I can tether my phone and use that. However, when playing TF2, my ping hovers between 100 and 200, usually towards 200, occasionally a bit more. Is that enough to make me lag and jump around the map, or is it ok to play on?

I initially didn't even think it was worth trying, until I remembered playing Q3A back when dial up was the only thing available...

Well for most of the games I play, under 100 ping is crucial...

40-70 is great.

100 is fine if everyone has 100, anything over is just stupid. Nothing registers.

depends on the game
if u play lots of shooters u will need a ping way under 100.
for things like sc2 or wc3 a ping between 100 and 200 is still acceptable i think.
of course under 100 would be better.
basically if u are playing a game where fast reactions are needed, a bad ping and delay incoming with that is quite bad ^^

With the netcode TF2 uses you'll be fine in that ping range. Some people might ***** to you about it but neither of you really have an advantage. (Unless you play as a projectile class: demoman, soldier, pyro. Then you are at a disadvantage)

[4 years of competitive play, some against European teams (im from the U.S.)]

So yeah you're fine.

Most console gamers operate in those ping ranges... You should be fine.

In BO I once played in a U.S server that gave me 600 ping, was a weird game.

under 100 ping for FPS game is crucial if it involves reaction time a lot . ( cod 4-CS )

well... from a quake players pov... unlagged netcode, give me <60 ping or ****

but i do play older games with no unlagged netcode (for guns, movement still is) and can play reasonably well up around 230 ping

i dont play tf2 and have no idea what the netcode is like but i do know people who play games these days complain a bit less about glitches than the elitist quake crowed... as long as you arent teleporting 30 feet to the left you are fine... quake players complain about a rail slug hitting a hitbox 2 pixels behind the model
