How much ping time is too much? - Page 4

Depends on the game. For shooters you want to have <70, most other games you can get away with anything up to 150.

and thats why i hate quakelive anything over 40 falls to pieces... i prefer quake2 netcode where you just lead your shots, so 60ms ping, you aim 60ms ahead i can rail 40% on a 200 ping but i really have to think about how to line stuff up... playing much more rocket heavy rather than hitscan helps at a higher ping in quake games, i used to play 230 ping clan arena in cpma and would still get midair rockets, but only land a rail every other round or so lol the cpma netcode is surprising at a higher ping really, can still land some good rails ql and q4 kinda fail on hitscan netcode though

as far as source games go, ive only played l4d online, with like a 200 ping, and it definitely wasnt much of a problem... was probably cause l4d is an easy game in the first place though

in the end it is more than ping... server fps is a big factor, packet loss is a big factor, connection stability is a big factor, and also your personal play style... i dont play tf2, but i imagine playing a sniper on 200 ping would be a lot harder than playing a soldier with rockets on 200 ping

EDIT: i would also like to add id play pvp mmo's with 800 ping and still own everyone on the server like nothing ah i miss the early days of conquer online fbing... that game was so epic until it got ruined by patching
Kinda meh now...

I won't accept pings any higher than 50ms for anything including gaming, currently I have a solid 22 ping over a 1:1 connection
