Samsung or LG Plasma? - Page 2

My Samsung PN50c450 just arrived today. I haven't had much time to mess with it yet, but all I can say is "HOLY HELL." I doubt anyone who even mentions LCDs in the same sentence as plasma has ever seen a plasma in a natural setting. The PQ is phenomenal. The blacks and colors are so good that it depresses me, because I'm stuck with a LCD in the bedroom. smile.gif

I did a lot of research on avsforum.com prior to my purchase so I will save you some time. As of now Samsung and Panasonic are the only two companies worth your time. Nobody else comes close in picture quality and anti-image retention technology.

If you really appreciate the cinema, plasma will always win out especially in low ambient lighting conditions, and give the most accurate picture. Plus, you will have no issues with viewing angle, which though better, still plagues LCD/LED displays.
Power wise, plasmas use more energy, but have improved in that area.
If viewing angle is not a problem and brightly lit rooms make up your viewing area, then LCD is certainly an advantage over plasmas which usually have glossier screens, and a dimmer display.
As far as brands, all have come a long way. While Samsung is the most popular, especially for LCD, LG is now very competitive and offers some great calibration settings.
Panasonic will generally have the best black level over the other two, especially with their plasmas.
I would consider a professional calibration with any you choose. The avsforum has some excellent references of pro calibrators. I would avoid BB and other 'store tech' services.
Experience and personal referrals go a long way.
At a minimum get a calibration disk such as 'Wow', DVE, etc. and do your own 'lite' cal to get rid of the generally overboosted showroom settings.

i owned both of them. i got the Samsung one first. i liked it but peoples faces where very redish at first. i then modified the settings and it looked great. also ,the buzzing was very loud!!!!!! it wasnt that bad during the day when the volume was loud but at night i would put the volume very low and it was really anoying! One week later, i return it and i got the LG one. i got to say the Samsung had slightly better picture but the LG one was better because it was thinner and the buzzing noise was very low. also the LGs colors where more accurate (samsung one had a very redish tone for everything) . At first i wasnt sure about getting a LG Tv because a lot of idiots say they are cheap and they arent good. this is not true because know people that own LG TVs (4 in total) and they all work great. this is coming from a owner of 3 samsung LCDs. Samsung tvs are great but their 2009 plasma could of been better . i know that their 2011 models will be amazing

I just bought a 51'' plasma 1080p samsung this week and its ok - I originally bought the 720 and took it back for the 1080p/ I have a 55'' lcd samsung 1080 in my living room and sorry to say that the lcd blows the plasma away. LCD is much sharper and crispier than the plasma. As far as LG goes , well I used to sell cell phones for atnt and hated LG phones so completely hated teh LG but when I was researching on shopping for my plasma this week surprisingly enough I found that LG makes a fantastic plasma. I am still if'y about it cause I hate there phones but if it werent for this I would have one on my wall. Consider them cause they look great! Take the model and google for defe3cts/ Good luck
