talk about IPv6 from defcon.

I've been thinking of trying out one of the tunnel services.

What implications does this have on home users? Is everyone going to have to go any buy IPv6 compatible gateways/modems?

DEAR GOD NO!!!!!! I understood subnetting and was pretty good at it for all of 2 months when I studied for my CCNA...I still understand some of it but actually sitting down and doing the math is beyond my limits now.

In all honesty this isn't a hardware update...truth be told a simple firmware fix to allow gateway devices to handle an ipv6 address over an ipv4 SHOULD (being the keyword) be able to handle it. Most modern switches / routers already handle internal switching at an ipv6 level. The DHCP services still handle 4.


What does this mean for internet traffic? Right now we have 3 classes of ip addresses (a, b and c,) with their own internal and private sectors (10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x If I recall.)

Wonder what this means for creating private ip's on ipv6 and zeroconf configurations.
