How exactly does AA and Transparency AA work with the GTX 570?

Thread Starter
Hi, I don't know what to say but so far my ATI 5870 was producing better and accurate AA in games.

I've noticed by going into Nvidia Control Panel, forcing AA to 16xQ and Transparency to 2x,4x and even 8x SSA in let us say Mass Effect 2.

Only slightly applies AA, nowhere near what 8X SSA should be producing, however this might be due to the Engine limitation of Mass Effect 2.

Okay so now I move onto Bad Company 2, not forced but in-game AA, set to 16xQ or even 32xAA...I still see jaggies in the distant, like Telephone lines and some other objects.

However up close and maybe slight further away everything is smooth, especially the character models and gun.

Fallout New Vegas forced AA wont work it has jaggies everywhere, but AA in the Fallout launcher works okay.

I heard forced AA in Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas provides a better image quality, however so far it is not working.

I have only 2 conclusions, The Card is not working as Intended,Latest Nvidia Drivers not working properly, software Interfering(only core temp and MSI afterburner with Gamses installed.

or

I'm just not using the Control Panel correctly and it is User error, I'm hoping it is the later.

Can someone help me get proper forced AA implemented and how AA+Transparency works.

Thanks.
My System.

Just bumping the topic, as I'm pulling my hair out here, it is kind of aggravating not being able to get the quality AA other people are getting

It depends a lot of the game in question. ME2 doesn't do AA too well, it is the Unreal 3 engine after all.

BC2's AA has a few issues, much like you describe. Personally I just run 32xAA on the ingame settings, looks good enough.

No idea about Fallout though, never played it so I cant really help.

It depends on the game.

Nvidia control panal has an enhance game mode for anti aliasing.
try that when you use the games settings with it.

in COD MW 2 it helped me alot.
I set everything in the control panel to the best possible settings and it made it look much better vs cod's setting up on high alone.

Depends on the game.

Don't stress about it though. just accept it.
It bothers me too.

I have a gtx 285 2gb

Thank you guys, you have no idea how much you just lowered my stress level,it is annoying me to no end.

However I noticed in some other games the forced application AA works beautifully,so thankfully it is just the game.

One question though, when forcing AA with Transparency, do I also need to to force "Antialialising Gamma Correction" option?

in BFBC2, set transparency AA to like 8x if your card can handle it. the folliage and trees and distant mountains shoud be smooth.
BC2 has pretty bad AA implementation imo

If you're running a game at high res generally it should look better with minimal AA than maximum.

At native res while gaming all of the pixels are already doing their job, maximum AA has a better effect when running lower resolutions.

Hope that helps

It totally depends on the game, it's not the card. Honestly I'd say forced AA doesn't work more often than it does. Not all game engines can have AA forced on them, it's really that simple.

I think to get forced AA to work on ME2 I had to rename the .exe. to UT3.exe. After doing that I ran it at 4xAA w/some TRSSAA on top of it, and it was absolutely night and day better-looking.

In BFBC2 you have to use TRSSAA to get rid of the jaggies on non-alpha stuff like telephone lines and chain-link fences.

Not sure on FONV but I can have a look-see here tonight for ya.

I always use in-game AA if it's there, and sometimes try to add TRSSAA if I got extra horsepower.

Hey brettjv, Man Good to see you are still around, very helpful poster, may I ask how you enable TRSSAA?

I'm new to this forcing AA thing, all that can be applied through control panel correct? or do I need Nvidia Inspector?

For example if possible can you explain what to do with the 4 following options in control Panel(these are set for specific games only):

Antialiasing Gamma correction: Currently set to Global Setting(Off)

Antialiasing Mode: Currently I have it to override any application setting

Antialiasing Setting: I have the option of 2x,4x,8x,8xQ,16x,16XQ,32X

Antialiasing Transparency: I have the option of Multisample and 2x,4x and 8x Super Sample

I'll go try and rename the Mass Effect 2.exe to UT3.exe, as for FONV, only if you have the time and can be bothered.

Thanks.

UPDATE:It seems with the new drivers, Mass Effect 2 does not have to be renamed, I tried it anyway, looks the same AA works but no where near to what I call good AA like in other games.
