Symbian’s market share dropped further in the fourth quarter of 2010 to 32.6 percent or 32.6 million units. This allowed Android to overtake Nokia's Symbian unit sales during the fourth quarter of 2010. However, the Symbian OS is also used by Fujitsu and Sharp as well as in legacy products from Sony Ericsson and Samsung. “This aggregated volume kept Symbian slightly ahead of Android,” said Ms. Cozza.

So not the first quarter as the most sold mobile OS just yet.

I really don't think that there is even a slight possibility that Nokia would replace Symbian or Meego with WM7 or Android.

It's suicidal and would lower them to compete only with Chinese hardware makers. They are really attached into Ovi store and other services that are just not possible with Android or WP.

Of course if Elop really is working undercover and tries to prepare the company for being taken over by Microsoft and the BOD won't do their job.

The interface (original theme, if that's what you mean) is pretty much the same as in S60 5th (it's boring. The test group must have been very conservative people), but the OS is brand new. Built from scratch.

It's time for Nokia to get MeeGo out, in my opinion it's their last chance if they want to get some customers back.

I think they're going for it, actually. Rumors are strong regarding a possible Nokia + Windows Phone 7. Source here: Engadget

EDIT: Out of the rumor mill now. It's official: Nokia and Microsoft partnering.

Yes,

It's been official for many hours, and it's been a painful day.
They just killed Nokia today.

It's not written in stone yet, but it will most likely happen.
Such a deal takes a long time to set up, so perhaps they where working on this before Elop.

This is definitely not the answer to Nokia's problems.

Elop has been a huge flop.
He has been bashing Symbian for a lot and the future of the OS is very uncertain now. No CEO would toilet the whole product line of the company like that, unless he has bigger plans.

Also Meego got shot down today. It will only play a minor part for now on.
Atleast other companies still works on it.

All that talk and who really knows are they going to update Symbian any further than PR 1.2.
They will lose A LOT of customers this year and they can't even get a WM phone out for long time.

Ovi store will most likely cease to exist since Microsoft and Nokia will start to use the same store for both sides.

Around 1000 Nokia workers walked out today from their workplace.

Elop also said that there is no plans to fusion with Microsoft. That could mean few things. Either he tried to calm down the investors (too late at that point) or it means that Microsoft will eventually buy Nokia.
Microsoft could easily buy enough big share (10%) of Nokia to become the biggest owner. I believe it will do that.

Btw, Nokia lost around 3 billion € of it's market cap when Elop spoke today. For a good reason. But hey, now it's even easier to melt nokia.

I've kept (and still use) my Nokia 6300. In time it will become a relic just like my HW overclocked Amiga 500+.
