Actually, there is a fundamentally issue with 1156.

The DMI 1.0 connection only allows a 10Gb/s connection between the CPU and chipset.

and why did intel switch to DMI in the first place when QPI was perfectly fine?

and couldn't the 2600k on a DMI 1 still compete with the 980x on its QPI?

I don't regret buying sandy bridge, it is not a big issue to me. I currently only have 2 HD's and they are in sata 3 ports. I didn't notice any performance degradation with SATA 2. As long as they replace/fix my board i am OK with the issue.

Pretty much the same way I feel. As long as gigabyte sends me a replacement or fixes my current board at no cost to me, i'll be happy.

For the 1156 chips, the QPI is on-chip to connect the cores and PCIe.

DMI is cheaper.

Compete how? If you ran 3 video cards, RAID HDDs, USB3.0, etc.... you will run out of bandwidth.
Once again...

so the people even on an i7 870 have an instant bottleneck when they Tri Xfire/SLI and have a raid setup going because of DMI?

Yo i dont know if its been done...but someone needs to do a OCN Version Sandybridge FAQ. There's a lot of questions that have been answered more than once, and a lot of unanswered qustions that many people have. Someone do it.

I can't because i'm a Nehalem/Gulftown guy. I would if i could.

I was really worried when I first saw this as i was getting ready for work this evening as I just bought a P8P67 Mobo and 2600k.

Now that ive had a chance to read over everything, while im upset at the prospect of having to watch for further RMA updates, for now Im just going to get a SATA II or SATA III card to run my additional hardware until details of the recall pan out. Thanks for all the info OCN!

looks like newegg has pulled the sandybridge from their website...weird huh?

oh well, i'm not looking to buy, was curious about the cost of a new build.

i upgraded to the 1156 a day after it came out and was worried about problems like this when i first upgraded, fortunately i escaped the bullet

but it doesn't seem to be a big deal as more information comes out on it.

Recalls are already being made I guess? If so Intel/Newegg is doing a good job with damage control.
