Have you killed a 570? (No recent deaths, buy some 570s!) - Page 125

Well, just figured I'd chime in again to say that my reference GTX 570 that was purchased very shortly after they were released is still going strong, and it has been run at 900/1800/2000 1.1V since the day I got it.

I've killed one, have 4. Gave one to a friend. Have two in one box and one in another. Haven't used them much since I put 3 monitors in potrait with dual 580 ultra classifieds, but the memory usage is rarely above 1gb even at 3240x1920. They're plenty capable.

I recently killed My GTX 570 too. Voltage was set to 1.05. I had tried running a game of Nexuiz before i even got into the game my system reset tried again and 2 more times reset, then followed by a burning smell. No pictures yet since im at work.

I took the sinks off and saw a fried Mosfet on the VR. I noticed someone else here bought replacement part from digikey. I did the same thing but haven't received them yet. I ordered this part here

http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/RJK0392DPA-00%23J53/RJK0392DPA-00%23J53CT-ND/2135904

After doing more searching I found a bteer replacement part and suggest replacing all fets with this instead.

http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/RJK03C0DPA-00%23J53/RJK03C0DPA-00%23J53CT-ND/2135901

This FET has better current handling and a lower on resistance.

Ive also figured out which part is used for driving them. There are 4 gate drive IC's next to the fets which could have also gone bad. They are IR3537.

If you replace one fet you'll need to replace the one next to it as well at a minimum. When one fails it shorts out the other most likely killing them both. It's even possible that since the all the VR sections are paralleled they could all be dead. hopefully not.

Also removal of these fets is very difficult. I tried using a hot air pencil with no luck and got two removed using two fat soldering irons simultaneously on one fet. I had huge half inch tips on them. Obviously someone with the proper rework station might have better luck. I plan on posting my results once I get my parts in. I did end up messing up the pads on one FET but I think it will still be possible to fix.

Sorry I can't find my Pics.
First one shorted internally and didn't blowup.
Second one Took out my Card and Mobo(Lost my prized FoxConn x58 Mobo)

Were these reference Nvidia or were they an AIB like EVGA or Asus?

While I haven't Got a reason to yet, I'm gonna ask my buddy for another 570 but modify it with the VRMs TeslaFreakShow mentioned. Then I will also Be putting a Temp Sensor Between the VRMS and we will start seeing if they are a worth while replacement.

My current card My be different the Previous production runs. It seems To run Hotter than the rest but it also has been running better than the rest, Also outlasted the rest.
