Wish that was true. The fact is, thry can't. Doing so could be fatal to your card.

1.175v 975mhz gpu 2000 mem

fan speed set to 100% above 62 degrees. 3dmark Vantage gets temps up to about 71, scores 32407. I've gotten nearly the same score with 950/2200 but I would rather push on the core since I can monitor it's temp onscreen

Just tried 1.2v 1000/990/985mhz 2000mem - gsod after 10 seconds of Vantage. Power down crash with 980mhz 1.2v, probably shouldn't have tried that one. Think I might have killed it. Not getting through vantage at stock settings.

Machine won't boot, just beeps, and the video card hits full fan speed immediately.

Might be the motherboard, just swapped in a GTX 285BE and got the same result. Looked at the GTX 570, doesn't show any visible sings of damage, smells fine. GTX 285 worked better after I plugged in the power. I changed the bios on the card, what are the odds they'll catch that on the RMA?

Yes, and it is a failure on nVidia's part for supplying a reference board that can not meet the demands of common usage. Just because games don't stress as hard now as Furmark doesn't mean they won't in the future. It should be able to run with all of its processors loaded at spec and not blow up.

^ that is correct, my GTX 275s dont blow running furmark or folding so I would expect no GPU to do so. If the OCP is "needed" it means the card is crap and they are cheating to keep it in spec due to the fact if its not it will kill itself. Now imagine a new GPU hungry game came out that stressed the card in a similar way to furmark but its not on the OCP list yet? Your card kills itself.

Overclocking and using additional voltage is not common usage.

At least prime95 will test the stability of the cpu. Furmark is great if you want to see how much power you can pump into a card & how hot it can get, to test the stability of the clocks it doesn't do too good a job there...
Furmark stable & folding/gaming/benching stable are not the same, at least from my experience.

Pretty sure you bought the SC so that EVGA would overclock it for you... rolleyes.gif

I just ordered a Asus 570 and was wondering if you overclock it and it does die is that covered by warranty? Also as someone posted before do they care if you change the bios? Or does it depend on the company, like asus doesn't care but msi does
