In that case, how do they know that the vrm blew up by manufacturing defect or by overvolting/overclocking?

They don't

The only they can know is if you overvolted via flashing the bios and didn't put it back to stock when you shipped it back, and they checked. I'm not sure they'd even check though.

Here is the problem with this thread. I bet most of the cards that died here were faulty to begin with and didn't die from fried vrm's. Look around on Newegg tons of faulty cards around not just the 570. But the 570 has a special thread where every faulty card gets tallied up and blown out of proportion. There is a post on the EVGA forums that has tons of artifacting/crashing 5xx series cards with a fix posted. How many cards posted here have that problem? We dont know that either. In this thread fake 570 deaths have been posted and some deleted. How many fakes didnt get caught? We dont know that either. How many died from user error or another faulty component? We dont know that either. Why hasnt mine fried? It has been running at this speed since release almost 24/7 folding/gaming. Oh yeah cause it isn't a faulty card. I know that. It's strange that this is the only place you really see alot of 570's dying. Its rare on [H],Anand,TPU,EVGA, and the Nvidia forums and yes they overclock there too. It makes me wonder considering the 570 was spoken of so highly in these forums until all of a sudden months after release this so called "issue" popped up. I suggested a while ago proof should be posted to see the REAL cause of death but was shot down. Guess it didnt serve this threads purpose.

No, it was shot down because to see the VRM's you have to have a special tool (a T6 Torx bit, which I had to go out an buy because it's too small for a standard torx kit) and many people were worried about voiding their warranties and thus not receiving RMA's.

Do you not think poor PWM counts as being faulty to begin with? Because so many cards seem to be unaffected, it seems like there was a bad batch of reference boards produced. The goal of this thread is to gather information (as seem in my first post). Just because you haven't had an issue does not mean there isn't one.

If you'd like to make a suggestion, please do so. Otherwise if you're not going to add anything helpful to this thread, please stop posting.

And if you really want to prove that the 570's aren't under designed, kick it up to 1.2V and do some benchmarking/gaming and report back what happens (with some of this proof you speak of).

I have had quite a few cards through the years, and frankly for you to come and devaluate this thread the way you do offends me. When you do everything by the book and still get burnt, without taking any extra risk like unlocking extra levels of voltage, there IS something not quite up to spec with the hardware. I even ran a smaller oc than you.

In fact I saw worrying signs when I opened the stock cooler. The big chips (branded R125) were already somewhat miscolored, but I reasoned that this was just factory blemishes and went ahead with the Xtreme Plus installation. Since then I have realized that the vrms just beside probably already had begun to deteriorate, and that my vrms sooner or later would have poofed.

Now, just run your high oc and be happy with it, but dont take it for granted that everything will turn out ok. This IS an issue due to simple facts, like the already many times described 6 phase vrms, so accept it or not. No matter it wont change the fact that many of us got burnt.

Impossible to say, but considering the fact that 6 phase vrms have been used instead of 8's seems to indicate that there may be some coherence between the construct itself and these occurrences. The 570 is a great card in itself, price vs. performance, but i PERSONALLY wouldnt want to take my chances as I like to overclock somewhat at least. Read the first page. There a few 570's are listed that are known to employ a better vrm section. Asus gtx570 Directcu II seems like a good bet imho.
