is 1GB enough for 1200x1920 @ 32xAA?

It's just sad that it's tripple slot since you need Crosshair IV Extreme motherboard to be able to SLI 'em.

But I don't feel the need to even overclock it since it pwns everything like a chewing gum so forget about SLI xD

so true

might pick up 2GB model of the GTX560Ti

DX11 + 1200x1920 + 16xAF + 32xAA + 28inch monitor = Epic Win

Unlike what we'd all like to think, not everyone who owns a GTX570 frequents forums like Overclock.net. I blew up 2 GTX570 before I even learned of this VRM issue, and upgraded to a GTX580 before I even found this thread.

There is ALWAYS a risk when overclocking and overvolting. To blame a card design for blowing up when tweaking these settings is just plain silly.
Except, those risks are usually quite small. We have never had a whole model of cards reproducibly physically damage themselves when loaded up to the extrenum.

It changes the expected outcome of overclocking for everyone.

If anything, this thread at least will make people think twice before messing with those voltage settings and make manufacturers rethink their software-adjustable voltage ranges.

Quote:
Most consumers do not overclock their cards.
These arent popular consumer cards either. They're clearly upper-level parts competing with HD6970 range, which is AMD's top of the line. I'd say the likelihood they're overclocked is much higher, since users of these cards are likely to want and know how to get the most bang-for-their-buck.

Quote:
The number of dead cards at stock settings is minimal and is likely not any higher than other model cards. Hell, I had two 8800GT cards die out on me in a year, one was overclocked, the other was not. I was pissed that two cards died, but I still think these were some of the best cards available for their time.
Unless you are NVIDIA (or NVIDIA releases the failure rate statistics), you cannot say what the failure rates of these cards are. Please do not claim as much until that happens.

This thread has 50,000 views maybe because some people have viewed this thread 100s or maybe 1000s of times to keep up with all the developments maybe? Also, some people might not to feel the urge to post their failed cards after seeing 20 examples of such failures on the internet already.

This , and the fact that it's cheaper and overclocks better are the reasons i got a 480 . Don't understand why do they keep doing this "cheaping out" strategy !!! It's bad , because we are talking of the cards amongst the flagship ..

It runs hotter, but lots of people get the same OC's, or better with water. I'm still happy with my 570's though, since my case doesn't have the best airflow. The 570 is cooler and vents the heat out the back of the case well.

probably be picking up a Gainward GeForce GTX 570 Phantom

get the 570 phantom. I have been using one for almost a month now without any issues. I have been overvolting, undervolting and overclocking and its rock solid. Also it has the push/pull setup advantage. The fans are under the rad and they pull air through the rad. Which gives you an option to install one of Scythe Kama Stay PCI cards with 2 x 120mm fans and blow straight to the rad. I have this setup and this shaved off 10 degrees during FurMark xtreme burn-in test (no to mention the standard cooler is already cool enough). This way the card fans dont need to spin faster as the temps are cool and the good part of this is the fact that 2 x 120 fans spinning @ 1100rpm are muck quiter than the card fans spinning around 50%. I prefer to get as much performance as possible while maintaining low voice levels.

I am afraid this is not cheaping out. You see VRM modules are dirt cheap. That is why Asus/Gainward/Palit cards cost almost the same like reference cards with custom coolers. The price difference for adding 2 VRMs is a matter of a few dollars (especially when you consider that manufacturers buy thousands of these VRMs with massive discounts. If adding 2 extra VRMs reuired change in the design than it would make a cost difference. But this is not the case. 570 and 580 use identical PCB design. All they did is to remove 2 VRMs. If you look at the ref PCB you can see the empty slots. This is why I think this is a mjor design flow. Nvidia tried to cut down power usage with 570s but this end up with issues in the overclocking field.
