Have you killed a 570? (No recent deaths, buy some 570s!) - Page 96

Dunno if some1 mentioned before but ill give it a go. When i was buying my 570 TFII the guy selling it told me not to install drivers from the given CD. So i installed new 270.61 drivers. At that time card was at 900/1800/2200 at 1065mV as i remember. When running Furmark i could hear it throttling, also i could see the throttling (as in reduced fps) in Furmark. I did increase the voltage to 1075mV afterwards and got the same thing in Furmark.

Afterwards the case was that i was getting error 132 in WoW so i replaced the drivers with 266.58.
Few days later i was testing my fan profile with Furmak and the thing i noticed was lack of that that throttling. Also that was the moment when the card died.

All this leads me to believe that drivers might be playing an important role here OCP wise. Ppl which cards died without OCP disabled might put their driver info (which drivers they were running when their card died) along with other info which might give us a better inside of the matter.

I personally believe that software OCP isnt working as it was supposed to on drivers 266.58.

Edit: Also ive encountered a few places mentioning that memory OC is the thing killing them. Dunno...

Another death by Furmark story. Thanks for sharing.

For "testing temperatures" or "testing a fan profile", it's safer to put a heater inside your case in order to avoid dangerously high current which can happen in Furmark.

Well im sorry if i expect from a 340 euro (500$) card that, please, comes with OC program on the CD, that it can last a minute in Furmark or at least shut it self down if in danger. If it cant take it, then the Afterburner given should be limited at 1V and 850MHz and then we would get the message.

So, what conclusions can we draw on this? Bad batches? Inadequate air cooling on non 8-phase VRM's? My reference MSI GTX 570 is stable with a full cover water block at 1150mV at 1GHz Core Clock and I run it in SLI 24/7 at 1050mV @ 880MHz Core Clock. I've run multiple benchmarks at 1150mV at 950MHz Core Clock in SLI with a Palit GTX 570 Sonic Platinum (hybrid water GPU / air VRM cooling). I've shied away from using Furmark or similar stability testing tools for a while now. Furmark and Crysis 2 seems like it could be the culprit, too, from looking at the list.

On the serious side, seems to me that there is some bad batches, Furmark, ****ty drivers combo.

The way i did it was not through software but through bios using nibitor to edit the fermi voltages, Why? because after reading a lot of post about this card everyone says that the problem goes to the lacking of 2 VRM's on reference cards that are not able to sustain a steady voltage because they are designed to throttle and once we set the voltage through software we're setting it at a steady voltage.

So what i did in nbitor was set "Setting 2" on the nibitor fermi voltages at "0" i set it to 1.013v and the rest was left alone and also i set the fan to work between 70 to 100 in auto mode because iv notice that if i set it at a steady speed my previous card use to get unstable while OC'ing.

Now I've notice several things while monitoring the performance of my card with AIDA64 using my Logitech G15 Screen, first of all the current goes way higher than the defaulted ones at full load while running 3dmark, it can get between 65 to 70 amps according to AIDA64 (This is why i say im limited by my power supply because my power supply says it can supply 60A on the 12v), the 3d voltage that was the one i modified varies from 0.988 to 1.023v at load too (0.01v higher than the one i set).

All what I've done is based like i said on my analisys of the posts I've read here on the forums, but one thing that call my atention while monitoring was the rise on the voltage above the one i set, because i dont know at 1.2v how higher can get but that might be a reason too for why those VRM's are poping, cause they are going not only above 1.1 or 1.2v but because they are going higher than what they can give.

I'm not planing on rising my voltage higher than it is atm first because of my power supply limitation and seccond because i dont seem the need to go higher than i am atm and so far my card has been working perfectly without any issues.

Is this a solution for the poping problem? i dont know, im just writing what i did that i think is giving me good results and ill be posting in the future the performance of my card to let you guys know if its still working or it has pop too.

I hope my post can help you guys in anyway, attached is the pic of my fermi voltages in nibitor.

Note: i haven't been able to set my clock in bios cause every time i do it the OC gets unstable and my driver fails under testing, so iv been force to do it with the EVGA Precision Tool.

Edit: those 70 amps are not on the 12v line, those are of the gpu voltage which is set to work at 1.013v so forget what i said about being limited by the power supply
