But at least you get to live in Australia, where things don't suck as much. Who needs the Internet when one can go to the beach like, pretty much every day, and get sauced on Foster's while checking out the chicks?

It's the same in the Cellular market, where is is the same game with the same players, and where major, world leading companies are excluded by special regulations. The only way we got Wind was because it was just too embarassing for the regulators to keep them out. But then, Canadians can forget about going to the Emirates, because our airports are too hoidy-toidy to let Emirates land two planes a week - got to keep our Air industry in the hands of the money grubbers at Air Canada, where it is all about the worst, most abusive service possible - and the only company where it is cheaper and faster to go to Buffalo and jump on a plane to Korea, than it is to use a domestic flight that is less than two hours...

AT&T used to be in Canada but Canadian taxes and regulations forced em out. Because they were barely turning a profit.
AT&T was turning a good profit, and was building market share, but because their cellular service was so superior to that of the domestic providers - the CRTC jerked their licenses back, and then AT&T just left and sold it to Rogers, which turned it into a steaming pile of garbage. I don't blame AT&T for leaving, they just can't afford all of the payola it takes to become one of the two players.

And this isn't one incident, the regulators also forced Virgin out of business - and how they are just a shill name for Bell, and are trying to get all of the old Virgin users off of the affordable plans, and into the stuff that is three times as expensive but with a tenth the quality.

So enough with petitions and vote for the right party next election time, you know the one you blame for making Canada more like America. It just might save you.
We don't have much choice, our parties practice the same glad handling and engage in the same corruption, and really, follow the same overall ideology - to put the screws on the taxpayers by making them pay more taxes for less benefit. At least in the US, local areas gain benefit from the pork barrel - in Canada, all that cash ends up in the Caymans or wasted on steak dinners coated with caviar dipped in booze...

Other than the fact that internet is becoming more and more like a utility (gas, water, electric, etc) for most people.

I can manage close to 10GB a night even with this 2MB connection. I think we're currently on a 40GB limit with this package, I've passed it a crap ton of times before but they don't seem to care.

So, we may have relatively slow speeds, but we don't have the hugely expensive capped plans most places do. I'm on a £7/month ($11/month) for an unlimited 8mb/s line. I think you'd be hard pressed to find better than that from US ISPs (oh and I live in the middle of nowhere )
WOWWW I'm so jealous. I get 1.5 unlimited and I live in the middle of nowhere and they gouge the heck out of us.

However anyone on the Eastlink 30 might want to note that the fine print on there website says that the 15mbit/1mbit line will NOT be capped. Only the 30/2 and 100/5 mbit lines will recieve the 250cap.

my neighbors better smarten up or else there overage bills are gonna be insane.

If I get capped I might have to drop down to the 15/1 line.
I have the 15/1 line, its plenty fast for downloading movies, games, youtube, and pretty much anything I use internet for.

If you don't mind me asking where are you from? I want to know where else eastlink is.
