Then those temps are right around expected... You should be able to fold no problem at that clock and voltage. I wouldn't try to pump much more voltage, though, as your motherboard only has a 4-pin CPU power port. Should be fine now, though

Haven't needed to touch the voltage since about 4.2 ish (at which point it was deemed far too high and in need of a replacement CPU , see conversation a few pages back, lol). I honestly can't see needing anything higher than this for quite some time. I mean seriously, what programs am I going to run on this thing that are going to need faster anytime in the next decade? (kidding, kidding, lol)

Since my post, Prime95 has continued to run and temps have not peaked above 69c. They're in the 62-69c range now, between the four cores.

OCN Folding@Home Team Competition. That is all that will ever need those speeds. EVER. Well, the only one that matters, anyway...

Lol...good thing I'm involved in that then, eh? .

I also don't believe that even 24/7 folding with occasional gaming included (on top of folding) will push temps as hard as Prime95 is right now. When gaming, my GPU will heat up of course, but the one I'm using has a pretty good cooler on it. Tends to not get above 60c or so, and doesn't have a huge impact on CPU temps.

I typically see 2-3C lower temps while folding than with IBT. I see right around the same temps with prime and folding. Right now my max temp is 65C while folding, but in IBT it'll peak to 68C. Prime will go no higher than 66C. The only big variation in temps I see is that my mosfets start burning up while folding, but don't under IBT or prime. I have no idea why that is, and I won't speculate.

Also, I'm gonna try to bump up my OC to 5GHz for the rest of the TC once this foldathon WU finishes. Kind of a last hurrah.

Do you think running on water affects how much your temps fluctuate? Being new to overclocking, I'm even newer to cooling solutions and temps (and coming from the Mac world, I'm used to stratospheric temps on my iMac...I could heat up food and drinks on the hot air pouring out of the slot vent on the top).

I think it has had a bit of an effect. I wish I could draw a picture of what a graph may look like, but I can't

Basically, when I was on air, the temps tended to stay toward the low end. My typical range at 4.8GHz right before I went water was between 65 and 72 celsius. Temps would stay closer to 67~68, and randomly spike up to 71~72. After going water, my typical range is 58-65C, and it tends to stay closer to 62~63C. I don't see random 5C spike out of nowhere anymore.

Good to know for the future .

I'm fairly pleased - after a solid hour of Prime95 I'm averaging 64-70c between the four cores with no spikes above 70c at this point. Things seem as stable as can be, though I know most people look for 12-24 hours solid of Prime95 before calling something "stable." For my purposes, I doubt I'll have any issues and if I do, they'll be minor enough and and fixable with little effort. I don't see this being a problem.

Deux Ex: Human Revolution drops soon (they said August 23, but I haven't seen anything yet. Who knows when exactly they'll do it). I intend to have plenty of time playing that tomorrow, so we'll see how it holds up during gaming (which was when I noticed my old OC stuttering).

Folding pushes certain components harder than others, so even after I stop folding 24/7 I'll use it as a stability test. If a computer can survive 20 runs of IBT on High, 24 hours of prime, and 24 hours of folding, I'd call it definitively stable.

Also, had to order a new mouse. Let's see how a RAT7 does things...

I knew you were going for 4.5GHz.
