So it looks like 4.5 being okay was a fluke, likely due to the nice cool weather we'd been having and me not monitoring temps while gaming properly.
I checked in while gaming tonight to see my temps just about 80C. After scaling back to 4.3 they were still 76, 77. I knew it was too good to be true on a $30 cooler. I'm currently running tests now to see what voltage I need to be at for 4.0 (I'm forgetting where I was). I'm sorry guys, but I can't handle those temps.
If it were just for folding, I could likely pull 4.5. But I bought this machine for gaming and such first, and if my temps are spiking that high after only ~10 minutes in game, that's not acceptable. This likely means a big cut in my PPD (back to what I was when we started this thing), but it is what it is. I'm sorry
It'll still be decent, but no averages near as high as I've been getting.
EDIT: Even at 4.0 and 1.29 volts, Intel Burn is hitting 70C when it goes full on. It likely has to do with ambient temps in here tonight, as the AC isn't on and things aren't likely ventilated as well as they have been. I think I'm done with the gaming for tonight in any case
I've looked back through the logs for Speedfan and it looks like I've been hitting high 70s a lot more than I'm comfortable with. I can't stare at the temperature gauge all the time, so I guess I missed those points.Edited by Silas0220 - 8/24/11 at 9:29pm
