Well, I have some mostly good news for you . Below are pictures of Ghetto Setup Part Deux. This is a twofold operation. The first part is the elevation of the tower. Apparently, my computer desk has a bracket for the side to mount a computer on. I thought it would be too small for my setup, but so far, so good. This allows more airflow, especially into the bottom intake for the power supply.

The second part is the white box on top. This is a thing called a register booster, and it's usually put on top of an air conditioning floor vent to suck more cold air into the room. It's essentially a simple plastic box that's vented on the top and bottom and it contains a big fan. It gets plugged into the wall socket and runs at a pretty high rpm (it's also quite loud). I did this to simulate installing two fans in the top vents for exhaust purposes. I expect two real case fans to be more effieicient than this, but it's a good test. Add an exhaust fan on the back, and we're in business.

I won't be able to get the parts needed to install all these fans until I sell a couple items (still selling the macbook, looking for ~$300. Also going to be selling a 3 month old AT&T HTC Inspire 4G for $200-$300. PM me if interested! ). Once these sell, I get can my setup running properly .

That said, so far this setup seems to be running well at 4.5ghz. As a test, I fired up my GPU folding client to simulate gaming full time (I don't have the time atm to be actually in game). The combined PPD is just over 30K . I know I can't use this hardware for the competition (Carlos has made it very clear ). But this is just a test. I'm running much cooler with the fan box on top, mid 60s at worst it seems.

Well, I haven't done a real scientific test yet. However, when I was gaming before at 4.5, I would hit high 70s, maybe 78-79. With both clients running now, I'm stable at 66C. My GTX460 is overclocked to 800mhz too. I tried turning the fan box off to see what happened and the temps climbed to 73 in less than a minute. Turned it back on and they're right back to 66-67. Ventilation makes a big difference when you're running air!
