Ok looking at this team what do we need most?? We've got me in the X4 slot...no one in the 2500k/X6 slot... 3 people in the 2600k slot....

I don't want to get a 2600k and have to go on another team...

A few thoughts.

Option 1:
I keep my X4 and dunk it in a mineral oil tank for the winter on my deck.
And I build a 2500k rig for gaming.

Option 2:
I keep my rig as is for gaming only and I buy/build a mineral oil rig strictly for folding. Again will sit on my deck for the winter and take advantage of naturally occurring cold temperatures.

Option 3.
Sell my current rig and get only one rig for everything. Would be folding most of the time except for when I'm gaming. Either mineral oil rig, or a case designed for liquid cooling.

EDIT
I read the reviews on BD and it looks like it really consumes way too much power for a 24/7 folding rig. I can do just about the same with a 2500k and use less power....still going to wait for a few more reviews before making any decisions but I think the 8150 and 8120 will compete directly against the 2500k/X6 folding class

You have to keep in mind that our current i7 2600k Folder replacing me will only be with us for the rest of October, then he'll leave, he is just a temporal replacement and he can't stay more than that.

And I'd rather replace zelix with one of my GTX580's, so we can pull way more points for the team as a whole, instead of having a GTX460.

In my opinion, you either get an i5 2500k / X6 to do Bigadv, or i7 2600k, and considering how dedicated you are, I'd really prefer having you as our 2nd i7 2600k bigadv folder.

Just an FYI guys I've done a little bit of math and I think I can manage to do hugeadv with my current OC and RAM. I will be setting it up to give it a shot in the next few days. Worst case scenario is I'll have to go back down to regular bigadv for a little while after BF3 and Skyrim come out but other than that I should be able to make the deadlines and still use my comp a little bit. If whoever we get as our second 2600k gets a better OC and better RAM than me, then I've got no problem giving up the hugeadv slot but just letting you guys know that I am looking to increase my production as much as possible.

OK if I do a 2600k build this is what I've got so far:

I'll probably just pull my old HDD's out of my other rig or order an F3 spinpoint.

If I were you;

RAM: It's great, but check for the same model with CL8 instead.
Motherboard: It's awesome, but do you really need it? Although if you can afford it, go for it!
SSD: I'd go for a Crucial M4 instead.

For the RAM I would get as high of a speed as you can afford. I personally wish I'd gotten higher than 1600Mhz. This is what I personally would get if I did it over again. This is another good option IMO, and this one has actually been really cheap in the past too so it might get cheap again.

For as expensive as that Mobo is you can get a better brand name than Asrock and likely better features as well. What features do you really want/need out of a mobo so I can help you look. But right now this is what I'd go with () it's price has come down so it's actually cheaper, more efficient, has more PCIe slots and has a NF200 chip so you can run two cards at x16 or four at x8. I'm really happy with mine.

The Crucial is supposed to be a really good SSD as Kcue said.

Microcenter has the 2600k for the best price I've seen if you have one near you. Also keep an eye out for any 2700k news as that is supposed to be released soon and will likely knock down the price of the 2600k some so if you can it might be a good idea to buy right after that hits.

Thanks for your input! I really have no issues with ASRock other than they are known for making cheap mobo's. However the one I picked out is a V12+6 Power Phase and Digi VRM... My main focus is overclocking. If ASUS, MSI, ASRock or whomever makes the best board for OCing I want it, I have no loyalty to brand name, just want the best bang for my buck.

Secondly, I'd really like to get the z68 chipset due to the SSD caching that can be done (hence a small SSD). I know the P67's are a bit cheaper but I'm willing to pay extra for the z68.

I'm pretty weak on my knowledge of RAM and timings...Does a higher speed allow for more overclocking, or just quicker launching of applications?
