Sorry to hear about your energy problems KCue, and hope to see you back whenever you're able. smile.gif It may or may not help you but I like LED lightbulbs for trying to reduce power consumption, they aren't cheap upfront but they do put out great light and save lots of energy. They have a few different wattages; a 6 watt that is similar to a 50 watt incandescent, a 7 watt ~ 60 watt, a 9 watt ~ 75 watt, and a 12 watt ~ 100 watt, so depending on how much light you need you could be saving a huge amount of power. I prefer the warm white temperature ones. Only possible downside to these is that they only put off light in 180 degrees as opposed to nearly 360 degrees of incandescent, it's not like they are spot lights but you just wouldn't want to use them in like a desk lamp that faces the ceiling if you wanted light below it.

Does anybody here know how to get any sort of bigadv without having to change my VM from how it is now which is this setup? Jedix told me that they are still giving out the old 8 core bigadvs for now but they just aren't correctly giving them out to 8 core machines and that you need the 12 core hack to even get regular bigadv. I'd prefer bigadv but I'll even try hugeadv and see how close to the deadline it would put me. I know that we are expecting all of the various bigadvs and hugeadvs to be not doable by the deadline by a 2600k soon and the 2600ks will be stuck to SMP after, but I just want to be competitive in the meanwhile. So if anybody knows how I can get any sort of bigadv without having to change my VM from this I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Here is the code Jedix told me to put into my VM but it returns "-bash: sudo: command not found" after each of the two lines I input.
Code:
sudo cat /proc/stat | awk 'BEGIN { TARGET_NCPUS=12 } ; { if ($1 == "intr") { for (i=NR-2;i<TARGET_NCPUS;i++) print "cpu" i S } ; S="" ; for (i=2;i<=NF;i++) S=S " " $i ; print }' > /tmp/stat.save
sudo mount --bind /tmp/stat.save /proc/stat

that's the method I am using and it works for bigadv. The only thing I would recommend is increasing the VM memory to 4+ gigs

btw, I don't think you're allowed to do hugeadv in the i7-2 category

I switched most of my light's to LED's when Lowes and Home Depot had a sale. My energy bill went down significantly and these lights will last me 25+ years biggrin.gif

To answer the second portion of your question, if they are still giving bigadv that's awesome...but unless the rules changed only one i7 can fold hugeadv and I'm currently in that position on my 24/7 dedicated rig. I've been having issues with hugeadv 6903 WU's and three have failed me this month (according to other folks they've been having issues with the 6903's as well). I'm leaning towards it's a stanford issue. Either way I'll be dropping a 6903 in the next two hours so we'll see what happens!

Juano, if you're pumping out more PPD than myself on hugeadv I'd gladly switch to SMP.
I get 77k PPD on a 6903, and about 82k PPD when I grab a 6904.

No I would most certainly not be getting better PPD than you even if I could do hugeadv. It was just a brain fart, I would've realized sooner or later, but I just meant that I was willing to try just about anything short of a different VM because messing around with that wasn't fun last time.

Anyone know why my TPF on GPU3 work units just doubled (cutting my ppd in half) , it started happening yesterday morning and all I've done is overclock it more. Is Stanford making more changed that I'm not aware of?
