reseat that heatsink :>

what TIM did you use and how much? My old big typhoon keeps my Q6600 at 3.3ghz witha 1.55vcore at load under 74 degrees in IBT (linpack). Somethings not right here,a nd its more than just bad cable management IMO.

50c's in game is 120f which is fine.

That's within my safe range. Where were you getting the 70c from? Stress testing? yeah the TIM will be fine, it doesn't expire.

I used arctic silver Mx2. I used a small drop of it but more than a rice grain size. What's the best way to apply and how much. I hear a thin line is best.

i did a thin line down the middle of the chip, and oriented so it ran inbetween the cores. found pics online of a q6600 with its IHS removed a few years ago when i did it so thats how i determined that.

What stepping is it? The G0 stepping runs cooler than the B3 stepping.

Also make sure your TIM is applied properly and your NOT using some AS5... crap is worthless and MX-2 is way better.

The damn thing took me forever to put back on and it looks like the legs of the heat sink do not have much more life in them. It is now running prime at 60-65c so far... One problem I put the damn heat sink on facing the wrong way. I am afaird to take it off again as the legs look like they had it. When I put the side one the temps climb to 70c and I start getting errors in prime.

Ugh I guess I have to try this again.. Do I need to clean it off again?
