Are these features going to be on the AMD Desktop's too? If they are, the PowerNow! feature will be very useful.

It kind of is like Intel's SpeedStep but instead of fiddling around with the multiplyer the processor will adjust itself for maximum frequency.

Now that we know this, will there even be a point in manual overclocking if the processor itself will adjust for the maximum gain? This pretty much is great for people that don't want to up voltages to get the maximum overclock. I wonder if the TurboMode will vary across processors as well.

I am not an overclocker, so I will not pretend to understand that world. I am going to go out on a limb and say that overclocking will still happen because someone will always want to push the limits.

Turbo CORE stays within the power envelope that has been defined for the processor. So in that sense I would call it "casual overclocking" if I had to define it in those terms.

But, remember that your clock speed is workload/power consumption dependent. You are not going to get a "set" clock speed from this, only a base and a max. It will vary between the base and the max, depending on the workload.

So its a bit like your cool and quiet feature,just expanded? And are there guaranteed performance ranges?

Performance ranges are not guaranteed. If we could guarantee we would stamp that speed on the processor. Right?

There is always some headroom between base and TDP, all this does is "lean into" that headroom to try to drive the highest clock speed that it can.

Hey JF, this looks like a feature that will boost single to low threaded workloads to provide better performance...

A feature that will serve a very real purpose when it comes to playing older games not optimized to take advantage of all the cores.
