My buddy has an Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop and there are tons of different drivers for the various adapters that could be in it. http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx

How can I tell which he has without physically being able to access his laptop? (teamviewer)

That would probably be impossible.

Only way to tell is in device manager or by physically looking at the laptops motherboard.

Lame... I fixed it once but my guess is he visited some donkey show site or something and then he reverted back to a previous state.

Figured it out. One of the XP Atheros drivers did the trick.
