Got Netbook Windows or Linux?

Hi, I got a nice Netbook last week for dirt cheap. Is an Asus EEE-PC 1101HAB that i paid 70$ without the powercord. I first install windows 7 professional on it (Student licence) but i found too slow (like my old pentium 3), I try a few day ago Xubuntu 10.4 (already had it burn) wich my CPU was at least 80% idle....wich is really not good. I finally put XP Home on it with everything deactivate, found a "mod" driver for the video card (make it a bit faster...), but still slow even just for web browsing.

The spec are

Atom Z520 1.33Ghz with HT
2GB DDR2 667(the max it suport)
160GB WD Blue Sata WD1600BEVT
Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet
Atheros AR9285 Wifi
Intel GMA500 (where this netbook because a ****y one)
And a 11.6 Inch 1366*768 Screen (wich i love for the size)

I have experience in the linux world and i'm Linux+ certified, wich mean i can work "easily" under linux. I was thinking about installing Debian (witout X) and after that try to found to most minimal graphical interface for it. but i was wondering if all my hardware going to work with it?

Under Ubuntu eveything work out of the box (exept video card..). I was thinking if anyone can give me a "GOOD" tuto about how to make this hardware work under debian or IF anyone know how to make this stupide thing be faster under windows.

My experience with Linux on my netbook was Ubuntu Netbook Edition. I used 10.04 rather then 10.10 because of that stupid unmoveable dock taking up to much screen space.

Anyway, I would use a netbook optimized OS be it UNE, Meego, and a few others I can't remember the name of.

Yet, Windows 7 Pro runs perfectly fine on my netbook...

i am running windows 7 ulitmate on a netbook with similar specs (the atom on mine is 1.6) with zero issues. all i do is office apps, surf and the occassional windows media center session (intenet tv).

i suspect you need to tweak some settings or install the correct chipset drivers.

Like has been said Win 7 should be decent actually... then again so should just about any version of Linux and Desktop Environment... Choices, choices...

edit: However, forget about HD video playback :/

I have an Acer Aspire One D250 with upgraded RAM and a bigger hard drive. Windows 7 runs perfectly fine with Aero on and the only problem with Flash I've had was those stupid YouTube profile pages.

I would consider going with an LXDE distro. I used Lubuntu on my netbook and was wonderfully snappy and quick.

I had everything work without a problem, obviously without being able to play HD content. The only thing I needed to do was install the Ubuntu Software Center from the Synaptic Package Manager.
