Now temps were never a problem for me with the hyper 212+ but now its just ridiculous, the room is 33c case temp according to my NZXT sentry LX is 36c.

Now get this the cpu is idling at 22c and at full load its at 27.5c IN A 33c room..i'm literally boiling in here and this chip is cooler than I am.

The next step is to overclock at these low volts and see if it is possible. I'll keep you guys informed.

BTW i did not start this thread to brag but i was looking for a undervolting thread about the 555 and i could not find it so all my findings here will be for all the 555 owners out there.

I have a media server box that I've been running an older X2 545 at 2 GHz 1.00v that took about 80 watts idle with a Cooler Master TX2+. I swapped in my C3 X2 555, set it to default speed 1.15v and it ran Prime95 stable 200x16.5=3300 but it rebooted when I raised the multi to 17 (90 watts idle/120 watts loaded using onboard video). I upped the bus speed to 205 and will continue to see how far I can go at 1.15v. Thanks for the inspiration as I've been meaning to swap chips for awhile now. After I find the limit I'll go back down to 2 GHz again and see if it'll go lower than 1.00v. biggrin.gif

Quick update: Well it Prime95 errored out at 205 so 3.3 GHz @ 1.15v is the limit on this old board. I could probably do better on one of my ASUS mobo's but what's the point? I did learn that it's not worth running at 2 GHz when I'm only saving like 10 watts vs. 3.3 GHz. I'll have to save up some cash and get a Brazos board when they become available and then I'll see a dramatic drop in energy consumption. Thanks again for the inspiration.

my 555 (on 2 cores) does 20-22C at normal use and 30-33C under prime95, 100% stress. ambient temperature is current los angeles temps (dunno what it is). i have a hyper 212+ as well. the 555 is overclocked to 3.9ghz 1.5volts.

I've been wondering if these 555 have a temp offset as well.

Mine is unlocked to a B55 and my CPU/TMPIN0 temps (not core) are around 24C idle, 41C load. This is a quad core at 4ghz 1.44v and NB at 2800mhz 1.3v. It would make more sense if idle was 34C and load was 51C. Though when I had my 955 C2, it was doing 3.8ghz 1.43v and had a load of 45C(core).

Yeah my 555 also runs ridiculously cool. OCing it to 4.2GHz only makes it go to 48C (socket temp, core - ~38C ) under load (12 hours Prime95).

On stock my temps were also about the same as yours. Ambient temp 25-30C over here

Apologies: I live in the caribbean and down here it can feel as if its 33c but really the humidity can be high...sometimes 90% so maybe it was cooler than 33c but i just felt really warm...but i had the AC on in the last post so that temperature is for sure 17c.

I just looked at the product page of the 555 and the max temps are 70C instead of the usual 62C. Thought I would just throw that out to you guys.
