Yeah I see your point, best to let a random member post the same article anyways than to start some kind of flame war. Which already seems to happen far too often.

We've seen rumours of Bulldozer having 3.5Ghz stock speeds (rumours only, but better than nothing)
with 500Mhz turbo core across all 16 cores, we can see 4Ghz stock speed for the server model The 8-core desktop variant is probably clocked even higher than this. And think of the turbo core across half the cores; it will be much more than 500Mhz. That means with half-core workloads we could see even up to 5Ghz speed right out of the box!

This also makes Bulldozer overclockability very predictable. I can smell it: I predict we could reach up to 5.5Ghz on air and above with better cooling, and 8Ghz+ on Phase. "We" as in the hardcore overclocker community of course
If this is true I'm selling my SB faster than a....

doesn't the T stand for Thuban?

in any event i remember seeing most of the Thubans having a turboboost-type feature where you lose cores but gain speed.

server products tend to be released first and then desktop.
in any event, i remember JF-AMD saying he works on the server end which also explains why he tends to speak more of server performance.
not this year. unless things have changed i believe desktop will be first and server second.

Aye all my friends got upset when I bought my Sandybridge... I told them relax... I'm getting a bulldozer... I just couldnt handle it another day on the old phenom I X4 processor... Those processors were a joke... hell I think my core 2 duo performs better tbh... sad but true...

I know that the current AM3 boards are supposed to support bulldozer... but I want a AM3+ board... so I figured since I was going to pay for a AM3 board anyways for a phenom II build... it wasent worth it.... that I might as well go 1155... and just buy another AM3+ board for my bulldozer build..

if that makes sence...

Oh and im watercooling the bulldozer too so I hope all the rumors are true and I can hit 5.5-6.0 Ghz with bulldozer on water...

If the boost is based on power draw, but I assume AMD did not disable thermal throttle/cutoffs. Being the case, there are now two factors limiting the boost. I rather have one.
You can only clock up to a max limit. 1 max (TDP) is better than 2 max (TDP and thermal). In a hot room you might be thermal limited even though the thermal solution can dissipate the heat up to TDP.

This is true for servers where there is a standard cooling solutions per TDP. It's not necessarily true for consumer products, in this thread there must be at least 10 different coolers; cooler manufacturers don't tell how many watt can be effectively evacuated.

Maybe it's all for the best. If it we'd have a Temp-limiter we'd be like: enter BIOS, dial in max TDP, max multiplier, Max Vcore offset, Max Temp and we'd just leave TC2 handle the rest. Max OC would be found in under 5mn. Where's the fun in that?
Yes, CoolSpeed will downclock if thermals are too high.

Cool!!!
Overclock is going beyond the system limits (and usually the warranty). We do not allow anything other than stock clocks on server products.

Yes, desktop will launch first in Q2, server in Q3.

Now, I'm confused.... so you're saying that this overclock does not care about temperatures at all? The thermal checks are ignored?

That means in a server room with a broken HVAC.... these chips will continue to run at the Turbo clocks even if temperatures are exceeding safe working temperatures?

Now there is also the inverse.... In a cold room and/or with better cooling, your TDP is now the limiting factor. People can control temperature but not TDP.
Once again...

cannot wait! seriously!

i really hope there isn't something that comes along and damages the public's perception of the chip, like the Phenom 1's TLB error.
