Pictures in snow

Thread Starter
I just got my t2i today, and i wanted to go take some pictures in a local park. Unfortunately it will be snowing for the next few days and i was wondering the safety of going out and taking pictures while it is snowing.

Thanks

if you have a screw on UV filter you can fashion a shroud with a plastic bag. Make hole in said plastic bag, tuck the edges in the filter, cover camera with bag and go out and shoot.

Ghetto, but it would work.

A t2i iirc doesnt have any type of weather sealing. Nor does its kit lens.

Nothing wrong with that. I have a piece of cardboard wrapped in aluminium foil rubber banded to my flash acting as a reflector

As for weatherproofing, I'd actually imagine it'd be fine, but I haven't had much experience with the Rebels in terms of outdoors environments myself. I never pushed my old XTi as much as I did with my 50D.

to be really honest, you only need a front filter to wipe the snow with your gloves when it builds up on the glass.

to demonstrate here's the crazy things i've done with my xti:

go to niagara falls in the middle of january to take pics. it was misty/foggy from the falls and literally had icicles form on the camera. the ballhead actually froze in place because water had gotten in the joint.

went out in the rain several times with it

rolled around in the snow in prone trying to take pictures of my friend's husky.

rolled around in the mud in pront trying to take pictures of said friend doing a warrior dash

with that said, as long as you don't do anything crazy like change lenses, memcard or battery out while your having crazy precipitation on it. i think your t2i do fine.

^ what he said

on a side note...you might want to consider using a ND split/grad filter and CPL combo to help the extremely bright snow....

Don't forget to up the exposure as bright white areas will render gray. If you're in manual, center the cursor to +1. If you're in the creative modes (Av/Tv/P) use the EV button and move it to +1.

Use a business card, it looks way cooler and you always have a card handy!
