At the point when you install windows you come to the sort of green page where your drive SHOULD be listed if it's not, I think over on the left is an advanced or install drivers link. You need to click that and browse to your mobo ACHI drivers have them on a usb stick...THEN a little green bar goes up a few times and THEN your drive should be listed to install windows on. Maybe at that "browse" point you may need to also load the Intel/marvel drivers I dont know being AMD platform. Your Drive should get 7.9 in WEI anything less and something is wrong with your setting up, or maybe u aint on 6gb/s Hope that helps....

I just got my beautiful OCZ Vertex 2E today and i'm following your tutorial. But when ever i switch to AHCI it boots past bios and then i get a message saying BOOTMGR is missing when i haven't even installed W7 yet. It wont give me the option to boot from the CD drive?

EDIT:

I turned it back to IDE then i installed windows. But now when i goto bios and change it back to AHCI i get a blue screen when loading windows? And when i change it back to IDE it boots into windows just fine?

Have you only got the ssd plugged on no1 sata port and your dvd rom for win install on the last? and are u putting the dvd rom as 1st boot drive, ssd as 2nd

He's right you know.. The computer is looking for it but can't find it. Tell it where it is in the boot tab of your bios.

I'm sure that the SSD is in the first SATA slot and the 2 storage hard drives and the CD drive are on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th slots, but i will try and have a look in the morning. Its late over here and i have a bad cold.

To install Win7 on a SSD only have the SSD and DVD/CD connected, do not have any other hard drives connected. Make sure your BIOS is set to boot off the DVD. After you get your OS installed set your BIOS back to boot off the SSD. After you get your OS running fine off your SSD then you can hookup the rest of your HD's.

To run your OS off a drive set to AHCI you have to have the port that the drive is hooked to set to AHCI before you install the OC. That is why you can not get it to run off AHCI after you installed it set to IDE.

There is away to change it from IDE to AHCI after you have installed it, your have to change a few things in the registry. There have been a couple of threads explaining how to do it in this SSD forum, do a search of the SSD forum and you should be able to find them.

I personally did not know to unhook all other drives because my board does not have AHCI anyway. But My Son's does. But he is using his SSD as a Linux drive so that is a moot issue. Thanks for that info and I will add that to my steps in the instructions.

This is my 5th time installing OS fresh. I have done every single method step by step over and over and over again. The SSD is the only drive I do have on the board. Finnaly broke down and got in touch with EVGA a few times. They want me to RMA the board. They are very confident that my controller is broken. As I am getting 1 set of errors on 1 sataIII port and another set on the other sataIII port. I have seriously tried every single thing I can think of to avoid the RMA lol.

Right now I am running its through a sataII port and when marvell loads it says "IDE PASSTHROUGH MODE" Drive not found! But I am guessing that is simply because I am not in sataIII now? Before it would still recognize the drive in sataII. But I believe I am running the intel drivers at this point. I did the windows fix for reg to run ahci. I do not know how to confirm it actually is though =(. Anyway I appreciate the help and I think in my case its RMA the board or get over it and stick with what I have.

I will make up my mind after i play with some more overclocking lol. Did my first OC tonight and prime just finished. Nothing huge but I am @ 3.5 ghz stable! thanks again guys!
