P67 vs X58 w/GTX580 SLI? Best performance Gaming?

Thread Starter
Does anyone have benchmark results of both the P67 vs X58 with a GTX580 SLI? I really want the P67 (5Ghz+ lure!) solution but dont really want to run dual GTX580's in 8x PCIE mode, they will be under water and have a heavy OC on them 950-1000+ core. Can some you shed some light on this situation please, thanks for your time. ohhh this is 100% gaming @ 2560x1440 res with max settings in all games. Opinions welcomed, but proof/benches perfered!

X58 can run two lanes at x16 each, so you'd be good with that. I'm not sure with p67 though. I would say, if you would be planning to buy one, whichever you can get cheaper. P67 and X58 are very close in terms of performance.

I'm running 2x6970 @ 990/1581 on a 2600k @ 4.7Ghz on a 24/7 gaming machine, 48+ hours prime small fft's & blend stable and run a P10869 in 3DMark 11. All on air.

X58 is a dead end, but you can still go that way if you have to get into something today as the P67 are now recalled.

Unless you are going past 1080 there is really not any performance loss in 2x8 lanes as opposed to 2x16.

If your going over that, you will note a small, likely 3% or less loss. That loss is within the range of what you will be able to get benchmark wise based on what your cards will OC to.

I decided at the last moment to go SB rather than X58, and I am happy I went that way once I saw the numbers I did.

If you don't need anything today, I would wait for Ivy.

Wish you the best on the new system, I really wanted to go Ivy as well but couldn't wait any longer with Rift coming soon.

Guess I will have to build an Ivy too!

No point in shelling extra for x16/x16 performance anyway. In both real-world usage and synthetic tests, you're only going to see a performance difference of 1 or 2 percent.

Though I would say hold off on SB until Intel fixes it's faulty SATA controllers.

Most of this ^^^
Don't panic over the chipset issue, if you only run 1 or 2 hard drives you can just put those into the Sata6 ports which aren't affected and be entirely happy until the recall comes along. Putting your optical disk onto the Sata3 ports (which are affected) isn't a big issue, as most people don't use them heavily, and the fault shows up more with heavier use.
Just keep your OS and data on the 6GBs ports or any secondary controllers and all will be well. The recall and fixed boards will come in time.

I measured a 2-5% performance loss between games when I went from 16x/16x X58 to 8x/8x P67 with both platforms CPU's clocked the same. This was at 4800x2560 on 3x 30" monitors.
