and his timings are still what auto put them at prolly 7-7-7-21-1t

OP, I suggest that you run three instances of CPU-Z. Open one to the CPU tab, one to the memory tab and one to the SPD tab. That way we can see what you are working with. Use Snipping Tool to get a screenshot and post it up.

Timing was set to 9-9-9-24-2t. Finally was able to boot @ 3.7Ghz, thanks Solar. But it seem a little shaky, so I followed x-bits 1055t overclock review and changed it to 9-9-9-24-1t, which gave a little more stability, but I kept getting BSOD under stress test. So I lowered to 3.5ghz, and It runs as stable as horsehouse without any added voltage to any of the affected variables. Idle temp is still at 15-17. Under stress test for 1 1/2 Hrs raises it to 45C max. No errors or warnings.

If I wanted to push more: (Correct me if im wrong)
1. Raise CPU freq
2. Supply needed voltage
3. Test for instability
4. If unstable, supply extra voltage (little at a time) to either CPU-NB, NB, or memory to compensate.
5. Repeat until comfortable with temp under load.

BTW crysis 2 pc demo spec list is out, and you need ATLEAST and 8800GT..... I doubt my new 6950 will run it "a la max" at 1440x900 (or lower).

EDIT: Running 1x 4gb

Np glad i could help.
What volts are your ram at?
and the 9-9-9-24 is norm
the 1t is not
you will get bsod from ram if there not at rated volts
can you provide a link to your ram?

I unno i usually upload them to photobucket, cause it wont let me upload from my comp file to big. then use the image code under the photo you uploaded in your reply on the forum.
And is the 45c max the socket temp? Thubans are broken with there temp sensor you have to usually add 10 degrees to the core temp sometimes its more somtimes its less i use hw monitor and go by the tmpin1 reading

My ram is at stock voltage. I forgot what it was, but the memory speed is super close to stock (1333 to 1332), and my NB is also at stock 2000mhz so I left the voltages at the default levels.

However, say I'd like to go higher and take the CPU to 4.0Ghz, I'd have to give it more juice. Also, if the NB ends up at 2121mhz or something, how much extra voltage would it need (and memory, too)? Is there a speed:voltage ratio or formula to follow?

Problem with that auto sets volts to 1.5 they need to be 1.6
4.0 settings=
286x14 c1e and turbo and cool@quiet off
1.475 cpu vcore
1.2 nb
1.375 cpu nb
1.6 ram
ht at 2005
cpu nb at 2228<--- or somehting close dont remember exact #

So I got my CPU to 3.6Ghz without any extra voltages.... I'd like to keep the power usage as low as possible. Ran prime95 blend for a good hr, no probs. Gonna run it some more. Id like to thank all you guys for helping me understand this mysterious, intriguing practise. Next, overclocking my 6950!
