Thanks for the replies
To ensure the best sound quality, I'd suggest you buy a switch, such as this.

You can also build your own. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-...mm-Switch-diy/

Oh... thanks, but i'd rather not have to buy something else. I guess i'll have to just unplug the speakers... only like two plugs though. Do you think i will notice a difference in my z2300's or mostly for the AD700s (with xonar dg compared to onboard)?

The onboard is Via, and they sound pretty good to me. For convenience, you can just put the speakers on the onboard and the headphones on the Xonar DG.

You will most likely notice the difference with the AD700, but when I went from onboard to a XtremeMusic with my Z-2300, I noticed a difference.

well, they aren't balanced at all tbh

Noticeable recession in the lower mids. They often are in studio settings cuz of supplier deals more than anything else and the fact that they for full size headphone isolate very well. Many headphones in studio settings are not balanced e.g. Sony V6 / 7506, beyerdynamic DT770. I prefer a balanced sound but however, you must recommend something that suits all the needs of the person as much as possible.

sorry to bring this thread back...

i just noticed that the AD700's just rose in price up to $120 from $100... at this price, the m50s are not far off at $150. i have read some reviews saying that ad700s are weak in the bass, and on the contrary, m50s have very good bass. since i listen to a lot of music heavy in the bass, do you think the extra $30 would be worth it? i am willing to pay a bit more for a quality product--forget about my budget. and also, should i stick to the xonar dg or consider an upgrade to ds or dx? for the bang for buck

thanks
