You will need quite the 980x to reach 5GHz. For the cost of the 980x, you should ask yourself a few questions:

How long am I going to keep this? (<2yrs, then it isn't worth it, WAY too expensive)

What is the most intense situation I will put my computer in? (Will you load 12 threads, or not, cause if not you should consider something else.)


I'd say wait for this little chipset issue to be fixed, and build a SB system as you had planned. It won't take that long for Intel to straighten this out. Every minute off the shelf is money lost to them.

If you can't wait for a new system, I'm sure the 980x would do anything you asked of it for as long as you keep it.
