They were alot more popular, and common, at launch. Since then they've faded away because everyone thinks you need a ton of vram to play games these days.

Not in the least, it all depends on the game. I take it you don't remember back less than 4 years ago when 90% of cards had no more than 512MB of vram?
Let's put this myth to rest:

HD 5750 512MB vs 1GB Performance Difference (%)
1920x1200 4AA/16AF
  • Call of Duty 4 1.3%
    Call of Juarez (DX10) 1.8%
    Crysis Warhead (DX10) 31.3%
    Dirt 2 (DX11) 2.9%
    FarCry 2 (DX10) 4.9%
    Left 4 Dead 0.1%
Lost Planet Colonies Scene 1(DX10) 1.1%
    Resident Evil 5 0.2%
    Stalker Clear Sky (DX10) 2.1%
    Unreal Tournament (AA) 2.3%
    World in Conflict (DX10) 4.2%

The only game that has a large performance deficiency from the lack of vram is Crysis. I'd be inclined to believe that the only games you'll see performance deficiencies like this in are already unplayable at >1920x1080 or higher levels of AA/AF. Otherwise, with a bit of overclocking you wouldn't even notice the difference. To give you an idea of the difference, in a majority of the games there is one frame per second or less difference between the two cards. Hell I'll even list the FPS in each game so you can compare!

HD 5750 512MB vs 1GB Performance Difference (FPS)
1920x1200 4AA/16AF
  • Call of Duty 4 63.5 | 64.3
    Call of Juarez (DX10) 22 | 22.4
    Crysis Warhead (DX10) 11.2 | 14.7
    Dirt 2 (DX11) 30.6 | 31.5
    FarCry 2 (DX10) 32.6 | 34.2
    Left 4 Dead 72 | 72.1
    Lost Planet Colonies Scene 1 (DX10) 26.8 | 27.1
    Resident Evil 5 54.5 | 54.6
    Stalker Clear Sky (DX10) 57.7 | 58.9
    Unreal Tournament (AA) 134.7 | 137.9
    World in Conflict (DX10) 24 | 25

That lack of vram sure did put a whoopin' on that 5750. Granted that is a 5750, you'd probably see a very similar decrease in performance between the 512MB and 1GB versions of the 5770. Besides, this card was ~$63 shipped show me a card that's better for that price!

Anyway this thread can die now since they are all sold out. I'll keep an eye out on the page and will bring this post back if they come back into stock.

Indeed, thanks for posting this C.Jackson! I got on this deal earlier and am happy now that I can replace an aging 8800 GT without spending much money.

Don't run 8xAA. Your 512MB card will regret it.

SF4 with 8xAA at 1920x1200 uses over 512MB of VRAM. GTA4 will won't run as well with 512MB VRAM. BF:BC2 uses over 512MB of VRAM (700MB +) with HBAO on and max settings, 1920x1200.

Not all games will choke, but there will be a few that make you wish you had 1GB vram at 1080p/1200p.

Okay, so get this card if you are only running at lower resolutions, and not at 8xAA, and don't expect to run Crysis and Metro at max, gotcha.

Perfect for my CM Elite 360 rig.

My arguement was because you made it sound like a majority of games will utilize more than 512MB vram therefore bringing this card to it's knees. I know that newer games are pushing vram standards higher. The thing is that the HD 5770, while a great card, isn't high end. It's not made to run the latest and greatest with high settings at 1080p with some AA tacked on- it's a budget gamer card. In most cases the games that will utilize the extra vram are already going to bring the 5770 1GB to it's knees. Yes, the 512MB will drag even further behind but it doesn't matter if the game is already unplayable on a 1GB card. Point being, you don't buy a card like this, or it's 1GB counterpart, and expect to play new games with 8xAA at 1080p+. It's a $60 card, you can't do any better for the price.

I know this deal is dead but just a short warning to anyone else who got in on it. I received my order today and it turns out they shipped a 5570 instead of a 5770. argh.

Whoa that sucks, I wonder if it's just a one time mistake or everyone is getting 5570's. The link still works and its clearly a 5770 both in description and pictured.
