Is it possible to hook my computer directly into the cable outlet and connect to the internet? Does the cable modem that's hooked up to the wireless router do the same thing that the integrated modem on my mobo? That would be amazing.

The modem downstairs is provided by our ISP. Is it required to connect to that for internet access, or is it no different than any other modem?

I would run a CAT5e cable from your computer to the router.

Cabling will go like this. ISP -> Modem -> Router -> Computer/Switch. Depending on the location of the Router and modem, a good drill bit and drop the cabling through the floor if it is your house.

Well, until that situation becomes feasible, I'd like to resolve my wireless conundrum. I've reinstalled Windows (I had a stripped version originally,) and now the network is being detected, but I am unable to connect to it. When I hit connect, it suggests that I try another password. I checked on the other computers on the network and copied their security settings & password. I just get a "Limited Access" message.

If your getting a limited access message, that suggests weak signal. You need to boost it, try readjusting your antenna.

first off go look at the bottom of the router and tell me what make and model it is. Second who setup your router? You need to get the password for not only the wireless but also the password to log into the router. Once you do that you can edit settings for the router. The weak signal can be due to a few things. Most times it is the security encryption being used on the router or the wireless radio channel or the signal itself is in a weaker mode

The router is an ubee DDW3611. It was installed by Time Warner Cable. I'm doubtful that the issue has to do with a weak signal, it's reporting that the signal strength is "excellent."
