e8400 multyplier

Thread Starter
hi guys!!
i have a question
on some forums i saw that the e8400 has a maximum of 10x multyplier
but i can set it to 9x max in my bios
i currently have 3.61 GHz - 400MHz fsb x9 on stock voltage which is stable and running at temperature of 35 (50-52max at full load)
i want to go to 4GHz with 400MHz fsb x10
or should i just do like 450 MHz fsb x9 ? (=4050MHz) and if you can recomend a nice foltage for 4ghz please.
thank you!

ahh i looked at the forums for the e8600 instead of e8400.. so i guess e8400 is 9x max.. my mistake..
well.. anyways.. how do you recommend getting my e8400 to 4GHz?

Hmmm... I'm currently running a 780i XFX motherboard with a e8200 (the retarded younger brother). The 8400 is suppose to overclock a lot better, but you'll probably need some decent cooling since you're going to be overclocking by increasing the FSB.

At the moment, my multiplier is locked at x8. I have my e8200 at 3.4 Ghz with a voltage level of 1.325. The problem with pushing it any further is that I'll be dealing with some particularly high chipset temperatures.

I'm using a CPU cooler that's probably no better than the stock intel one, and I'm idleing around 35c and running around 40c while gaming and 45-47c while performing stress tests.

My MCP temps float around 50c no matter what I'm doing, and to be honest, I'm a bit uncomfortable with any of my components going past 50 (even though that really isn't bad).

Anyway, I hope that small amount of info helps a little.

e8400 (x9), e8500 (x9.5) & e8600 (x10) so your mobo is correct.

For 4GHz I'd use 450x 9 to give 4050MHz If your memory and mobo can handle it I'd use 500FSB x 8 multi. Set Memory to 1.2:1 to give 1200MHz DDR2.

I had a E8500 and a Q9550 running with that settings ran very nice. If you can't run your mobo at 500FSB use FSB of 450 with memory still running at 1.2:1 to give 1080MHz DDR2. The 1.2:1 memory multi is the better. Using 1:1 the Trd is rubbish resulting in slow latencies.
