Sandybridge Problem isn't that bad at all.

Thread Starter
I just built my 2600k system today and as long as you only have two drives (so you can connect to sata 3) you wont be affected by the glitch.

From Engadget:
"Intel raised quite a few eyebrows yesterday by disclosing that its Cougar Point chipsets suffer from an incurable design issue that would potentially degrade Serial ATA transfers over time. AnandTech has gone to the trouble of getting in touch with Intel to seek more information and the problem, as it turns out, is a single transistor that's prone to a higher current leakage than tolerable. This can not only diminish performance over the 3Gbps SATA ports, it can actually make them fail altogether. There is more comforting news, however, in that the pair of 6Gbps SATA ports on the chipset are untroubled by this ailment, so devices and users that never plug into the 3Gbps connections can just carry on as if nothing's ever happened. For everyone else, a repair and replacement service is taking place now, with Intel's budget for dealing with this problem said to be a generous $700 million."

$700 Million budget to deal with this? Nice!

Considering they are projecting to make $125 Billion from SB, that's peanuts for Intel, lol.

Or you can buy for example Asrock P67 Extreme 6, which has 4 additional SATA3 ports (Marvell 9120, no RAID, but quite good in performance)

Why would you put a cd burner on your good ports? No reason, This also isn't suppose to affect data just performance but i wouldn't want any smart errors.

I personally also have ESATA ports in the back that are run off the marvel just takes a wire to convert those.

Too bad they aren't, lol.

Intel will get this under wraps way before we see BD.

So basically, I should put my HDD and my SSD on the gray Sata 3 (6.0Gbps), but... what about the DVD Writer? On one of the "faulty" Sata 2 ports?

....yea, screw the writer put it on the old ports.

It's not suppose to KILL anything just not perform as it should if it degrades in the long run.
