Have they added an equalizer of the same quality as the J3? That is one way to get around issues with Cowon products that you may have with their sound output.

Cowon gives some really crappy (the word I would prefer to use as an adjective would get sensored) earphones with the J3. Hopefully that is rectified with the D3! I have Klipsch Image S4s (only good for music with minimal trebble) and Monster Turbine Pro Coppers. I'm well aware of how important the output devices are.
Trust me, Sansa does everything that Cowon does in terms of EQ.

J3 has bass roll off just like D2, and Clip maintains natural.

Have you ever tried Cowon products without EQ? They sound like average-joe DAP

Cowon shines when it comes to EQ, but nevertheless it doesn't change the fact a rockboxed Sansa Clip can match Cowon's EQ at 1/10 of the price

How do you like your Klipsch S4?

BTW, I am not saying Cowon makes horrid products. I've owned all Cowon up to X7. I am just saying or rather defending that Sansa Clip+ is just as great as all other Cowon products.

Very nice, AMOLED screen. Still waiting for OLED LCD monitors. I've seen my brother's AMOLED phone it looked way better than his bricked iPhone.

Amazing i've been using the S9 for about the year. Just got the Optimus One. Arggh i'll miss JetEffect 3.0 and BBE on that was on the Cowon. And also sucks that Android 2.2 doesn't have a equalizer which Android 2.3 will have atleast . But i wonder about battery life and how that is going to be affected since it is Android.

If you have to modify the firmware, that's not the same thing. Does Sansa have anything like Cowon's BBE+ setup now? Or do you have to install Rockbox to get it? Also, I don't use EQ unless I have to.

I also don't know what you mean by bass rolloff; you get plenty of distinct bass with the J3 if you have a good seal.

The obvious price difference exaggeration you gave aside, you are also paying for more storage with a J3 in addition to the stock features that you apparently have to modify the Sansa to achieve. I'm only saying there's more to it than you imply.

From what I've seen of Sansa products, and now given what you've told me, it looks like they are still properly priced. I've recommended them before for the inexpensiveness and decent sound quality they provide, for what it's worth.

J3 gets bass roll off due to its amp limitation. You won't be getting any bass roll off you were to use an external amp.

It's not modifying firmware, you are just installing a custom firmware. By you mean "modifying firmware", shouldn't ALL J3's firmware updates count as well?

And I find this amusing to hear such comment from someone who has never used both of the products. Of course, audio quality is very subjective, but nevertheless you shouldn't judge without using both products to an extent.

TL;DR version

Want cheap DAP? Get Sansa
Want a DAP with bells and whistles? Get Cowon

Sure I have said Sansa Clip+ is better in some aspects, but I cannot let your ignorant comments such as J3 > all slide by. There are many DAPs out on the market that are better than J3, and I find it very absurd how you are fanatically trying to say it as a FACT that J3 is the best on the market.

Ever heard of Hi-Fi Man 801? It wipes the J3 in every aspect in terms of Audio. But given the fact it's 600+ dollar DAP it doesn't really justify its price for most audio geeks. At the same time there's 801 alternative called 601, costs roughly 1/2 of 801.

Believe it or not, iPods are also favourites among audio geeks. No, not because it's by shiny Apple products, because it produces great audio.

There's S:Flo2, which rivals 801 at price of 150 dollars but runs super hot with 3 hour of battery but is also loved by many audio geeks.

Having better audio is subjective. EQ vs no EQ is classical argument among audio geeks, some prefers no EQ, some prefers EQ. Putting that aside, all of the DAP i mentioned have great EQ and it also sounds great without EQ [except iPod], but Cowon sounds pretty below average without EQ. So where would that put Cowon at?

Like I said before, I am not anti-Cowon. They make decent products. It's just that I cannot stand you putting down every other products in favour of Cowon without ever trying them out

Anyone notice that it says Android OS? Guess it's an Android based PMP. Hopefully it'll compete with the likes of iTouch (market wise)

I heard that the iPod Touch is horrible in terms of sound quality against the Zune HD. If it really is good, then I might get it. The apps aren't too appealing to me but a couple of them are addicting like Fruit Ninja or Angry Birds (Do Not Press the Big Red Button, Veggie Samurai, etc.). Out of all of the MP3's though, I think I might just get a SanDisk Sansa Clip+ and a slotRadio card.

I know in general the iPod has sound quality issues unless modified. Even if it were up to par, I wouldn't get one just because iTunes is an abomination.

That's just a ridiculous argument. That's what you want to drag this down to? Go for it.

Says the man who speaks as though his words are gospel while criticizing someone else for speaking in no worse a manner. Hypocrisy suits you.

Call it what you will but I made my point. I also didn't say the J3 was better than everything. The only comment of mine that could possibly be construed as me saying that is when I asked what a poster has listened to that sounds better - a very legitimate question. In fact, you are basically putting words in my mouth and, in some cases, completely ignoring what I said. I realize that is typical for a forum, but the hypocrisy of you suggesting what I said is ignorant while you behave ignorantly is too overwhelming to ignore. Honestly, it makes me not want to respond to you anymore, so I guess that's what I'm going to (not?) do.

People over-rate the iPod Touch and Apple completely destroyed the definition of Media Player. They say (and lots of others) that the iPod Touch is an MP3 when it plays more than media but in a horrible way (sound quality failure, screen failure, etc. They just can't move away from LCD can they...). It's called a media player, not a computer! Get yourself a netbook or tablet. The apps though are addicting. I think Microsoft should create tApps, apps for tablets. That would be neat. I have to give apple some credit for their apps.
