Yea, newegg has been getting worse over the years, and most of the time I shop on Amazon now, since they price match most of the time anyways.

But call up newegg if you haven't, complain to the rep and ask them to remove the restocking fee. The restocking fee is meant for returns, not for RMA on a defective product.

yea i had to rma one of my 4870s a while back. i paid the shipping and restocking fee talked to a rep and i talked them into sending me a $20 gift card.

side note. my friend order 1 6850 and 1 500 gig hd. when we opened the box there were 2 6850s and 2 500 gig hds

ROFL ok umm you obviously haven't had many dealing with newegg. Just call them up and they will instantly waive any restocking fees and send you a return label. They are very good at listening to their customers.

Nope never, not even close with newegg. Once I bought an open box motherboard it arrived with bent pins. I used the chat and within 5 minutes I had a rma for a refund and shipping label in my email. I think you just messed up by using the automated rma feature. Just call or chat with them and they will get you all squared away.

I RMA'd some ram when I first built my sig rig. It was completely hassle free. I told them it failed memtest, iirc they gave me a pre-paid shipping label, and credited it back to my card fairly quickly. This was last year. Definitely talk to someone either online or on the phone, I'm interested to see what they say

Amazon.com returns are better imho. They pay for shipping and the computer does not automatically put a restocking fee on defective items.
+1 to this. Newegg will do almost anything for their customers, but you gotta call. They'll send you a prepaid bill to ship it back, no prob.

I just returned a HD 6870 that I bought open box. No issue with it all - just wanted to return it for a better deal. I called them and they waived the restocking fee. But they did not give me free shipping. Their logic was that I am returning for personal reason and not because it was defective. I was ok with that. So yeah, just like others said - just give them a call.

Call them, they have been very helpful in my experience.

One time I ordered some parts last minute to bring home for friends in HK. Ordered on a Monday, and I was supposed to fly out of the country on Sat. No problem with standard 3 day shipping, Newegg typically only takes 2 days to get their stuff to me from their NJ warehouse. Thursday rolls around and I'm freaking out since I don't have my stuff. As soon as it hits opening hours west coast time, I log in to their live-chat and explain my situation. The person helping me verifies that my stuff was in fact delayed for an unknown reason at one of the UPS branches. No problem, they would overnight a separate shipment of the same products to me free of shipping charges for the inconvenience caused.

This and the fact that you can occasionally ask for them to apply promo codes or rebates that were posted after you ordered stuff make me buy from newegg as much as I do
