my advice, I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS buy the physical media. then you can still play the games or sell them instead of Steam giving you the finger.
There are several games out there that you HAVE to play through Steam, whether or not you buy the boxed version in a store.

Digital downloads are where it is at and the future. I use Steam and Good Old Games. Good old games is best, you can download the installer and there is ZERO DRM.

Still most new games are on Steam.

If you are careful you will not get your account hacked. Don't play on strange computers. Pick a complicated password. I won't say the exact number of characters but I will say that my password is over 13 characters long, has numbers, capital letters, and special characters in it, NO ONE is brute forcing it. It also has no words in it so no dictionary attack.

Most the time though you give them the password willingly.

Sorry OP you got hacked. Do you have any idea how it happened?

I then added him to MSN, presented all of this info... and threatened to call his parents (he was 15). He then gave me the password to MY account and I got it back.

24 hours later, Steam responded to my ticket. I ended up rectifying the situation myself. Though I think I got lucky as well. My steam account with $1400 worth of games, was sold for $8 to this 15 year old kid.

I actually want a 15 year old to hack my account so I can do that. XD

Recently my sisters house got broken into just literally 3 weeks ago. Her husband doesn't really play PC games but they stole his PS3 and his whole collection of 30 odd games. In cases of house break-ins, the police can only do so much but 99% of the time the stuff that is stolen is never seen again.

Stop obsessing over physical copies it's not like you're going to sit every weekend licking the cases of your games. I used to use the same excuse too up until recently. I used to say to all my friends that i much preferred physical copies of games when truthfully i didn't really have a valid reason why - only that looking at the collection of all my games lined up in their cases made me feel good..... (which i about now thinking back).
Then Modern Warfare 2 came out, and being a big fan of cod 4 and all the hype of it at the time i wanted the game so badly. So i got it and although it was a disappointment i was introduced to Steam. Over time i familiarized myself with all its features and it lead me to realize how awesome Steam is.... and i can still look over my collection of games in that OCD/obsessive way as everything is all in one place, never getting lost, never deteriorating (cd scratches etc) and all available to me at the ease of a click of a button.
There are pros and cons to both physical and steam copies of games, but for people like me with crap innernetz connections physical > steam any day. Hooray for 5GB/month
