[Newegg] Norton Antivirus/AntiSpyware 2011 (3 PC license) for $9.99 w/FS

Norton Antivirus is on sale right now for $9.99 at the Egg with promo code EMCKHKJ55. While I am not a fan of their Internet Security products there Anvtivirus programs have been rewritten and they are fairly light on resources and have good ratings. For $10 I don't know of a better deal for AV/AS software.

I wouldn't put a norton product on my pc if you payed me.

The new Nortons are really quite nice. Since Norton 2010, they really bucked their ideas up. It's a far cry from the bloated McAfee style program and a lot more streamlined now.

I would snap this up if I was in the US. It's a shame, a lot of hate comes from those who cling onto gossip as opposed to real proof.

hate Norton, when my friend used it on his pc, I had to help remove the viruses. MSE!

So true...

I used 2010 for a while before I stumbled upon MSE, and tbh I was extremely impressed. Symantec has done a great job with their 2010 product line, which I'm sure translates to their 2011 line

Yes they have gotten better, but they have a lot of wreckage of their past to clean up.

Same. Their 2010 products were a complete redesign and they redesigned pretty much everything to battle all the bad rap they were getting.

For $10 it is indeed a good deal. I would say it is a decent product and I have had less problems with it than Kaspersky, McAffee, Panda, or otherwise. I was an IT tech for 3 solid years and I used quite a range of products to install on pre setup computers as well as existing client PC's. We used Trend, Kaspersky, McAffee (very short while), Webroot, Norton, and so on. I saw far less issues with Norton 2010 than I did with any of the other products. Things such as compatibility issues, firewall issues, ease of use, updates, performance (very light), and so on. I think their virus removal service is on par with most of the major companies.

This is a common stereotype and true up until their 2010 lineup and redesign. I was in your camp until then. Difference is that was a large part of my job getting rid of viruses and such. No security will make you 100% safe and you can certainly still get infections by downloading them regardless, changing firewall/exception settings, and moreover no security will help defend against those downloading torrents, illegal software, pron sites, and other such things. If so it is very minimal.

It's like practicing safe sex. Just because you have a condom doesn't make you invincible from getting a virus. You still have to be smart about what your habits are and what websites you go to.

Their removal tool by the way if you decide to remove Norton and know what you are doing has never failed me. Keep in mind no security is perfect and often people like to gossip about those who are among the top in anything.
