790i Ultra + SSD

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I have a 790i Ultra motherboard and an C300 256 GB SSD. I'm having problems with the controller of this board, since all the benchmarks I run top at ~130MB/s seq. read and ~100 MB/s seq. write

I'm using the Microsoft generic IDE drivers, as you can see in the screenshot attached.

I'm also posting some screen-shots from the AS SSD benchmark, with the dates from when it was taken.
As you can see, the first run (in September) had no problem reaching Sata2 speeds.

I'm guessing this problem is related with that AZEUGVNM controller.

Has anyone experienced the a similar problem ?

Have you ran the SSD tweak optimization guidelines?

Make sure you disable write-caching and defragmentation.

Windows 7 already does the necessary optimizations, and I don't need those performance tweaks, but thanks. I just want the sata2 speed back, and I think the problem is related to the IDE controller. :S

*bump* No ideas? I know this is a very specific problem, but hasn't someone already experienced the same problem ?

Hey, I found out the problem and I'm posting the solution for anyone who has or may have this in the future:

- The SATA port where the SSD was attached, was functioning in SATA 1.5Gb/s mode (still don't know why).
- I just plugged the SSD on another port (with the PC off, duh), booted, and Windows 7 recognized and installed the SSD drivers.
- And that's about it. Its kinda stupid actually :|

Why not ACHI? I picked up a massive amount of performance running AHCI on Intel drivers vs. IDE on generic drivers. At least try AHCI on the generic drivers.

you must be around your systems maximum transfer rate anyway, when I switched from a Q6600 to this 955 my read and write speeds went up massively.

For what I can tell in EVGA foruns, this chipset (790i Ultra) doesn't fully support AHCI, but there's a AHCI 1.0 driver installed, as you can see in the Device Manager picture.

Now that I solved the problem, I am. biggrin.gif

If you see the picture, it's a really nice improvement.
