WD VelociRaptor or SSD for OS drive? - Page 2

What? Tell me which HDD without RAIDing has 250MB+ sequential writes and reads? SSDs beats HDD in both random reads and writes (far more important for OS usage) and sequential. For an OS drive, SSD is the best hands down. HDD is just too slow and after fragmentation, it slows to a crawl. Only thing good about HDD is big storage for games and media. Also, newer SSDs has garbage collection and TRIM to keep their performance at tip top shape. HDDs are just too painfully slow and personally I will never go back to using it as my OS drive.

I'm actually thinking of getting 2 Corsair F120s or 2 Vertex 2s in RAID 0 for my OS drive.

I would go with an 128gb ssd since it has some room for a few games and it will still be quicker than the raptor. I do think they should definately lower prices on ssd's, they're kind of overpriced.

I would not get ocz. I got 3 vertex and 2 are dead, I would says c300.
Ssd = best fastest band for buck to a pc for boost. Get a 120 gb or more. it cost more but 60 gb did not hold my steam games. But any woot 128 gb ssd best thing .

SSD, but like everyone has said installing games and windows makes the space go fast. I had an 80 gb intel drive that I filled up real quickly, so I got a c300 that is just for my games.

SSD's are a great way to "feel" how fast your rig is also don't listen to anyone who warns you about the life and the "filling up" or "losing brain cells" of an SSD, with TRIM and the newer controllers an SSD will last until you choose to replace it.

Thread Starter
Thanks so much guys I'm currently leaning towards the Raptor still, though. Because of the size of windows & my games I'm just a little hesitant to sacrifice the GB for the MB/s. My mind isn't made up just yet so feel free to keep this going til tomorrow and I'll be sure to check back then.
